Edit Post

TappedOut forum

I would like to make a suggestion for an "Edit Post" function. Essentially, just some way to edit posts or threads that we have made. I know in the past I, and I assume others as well, have made either a typo or a mistake in the format of a post, only to realize it after posting. But, by then, there is no way to alter it and it is stuck as is.

I second this, it would be a nice thing to have since I detest imperfections in my posts.

Editing is currently an admin-only feature, and I think I prefer it that way. The preview screen is meant to help you catch mistakes before you post.

Also, we would need to implement a quote feature to go with an all-user edit feature. The problem I foresee with users being able to edit their posts is that it can lead to problems with trade agreements and also lead to confusion in other threads. Especially in the Q&A, it's not uncommon for users to tag each other and mention that something the other person wrote was incorrect; an edit feature that allowed the first user to correct his or her statement would cause confusion in such an event.

Maybe have it only usable in the forums, and only the last post you made?

Don't know if it's possible but just a thought.

It is just a very standard thing for most forums and it does the very things that you say, but it would still be very nice to have one exist.

I primarily meant as an added ability within the forums, or possibly even within comments on a persons deck. I agree that it could cause issues within Q&A or Trading, but I don't think it would be too likely to cause problems within the forum or commenting on decks. Of course, I could be overlooking something that would cause this to be a problem.

Agreed, this is actually one of the very few things about t/o that I don't like. I know the preview section is there but we're human and as such we tend to make silly mistakes from time to time. It has never been a huge issue to me but I am glad that I'm not the only one.

Although, Epochalyptik does have a very good point about posts regarding trades.

TappedOut also doesn't have the luxury of running on vBulletin or another forum-based system. The emphasis is on the deckbuilding interface, not the forums. It's harder for us to implement things like this because they don't come standard on our site (at least, I don't think they do).

I'm not saying it's impossible for editing to be implemented on a wider scale, but there are certain kinks that need to be worked out of the system before we can justify releasing the feature for general use. The last time this suggestion was posed, I think we ("we" being the admins) gave approximately the same argument I gave this time. The preview screen exists as a catch for errors, and it's sufficient for the time being. If we can overcome some of the issues inherent in comment editing, we may change our stance.

I think the preview screen is sufficient for responding to a thread. But I would love to have that screen when starting a thread.

You do get a preview screen when starting a thread.

I did not start a thread in the forum yet, but in the Q&A you don't get a preview when asking a question. I assumed it was the same here.

Actually, since it isn't default forum software, I'd think this would be EASIER to do how you want, because you could individually implement editing in each place you wanted to allow it, so no chance at all of accidentally allowing issues with trading.

Just limit it to all the basic forum sections, and the trading issue doesn't exist.

You could even limit it further by only allowing you to edit posts that have no responses under them.

Mind you, I'd MUCH prefer a function for the site to know where the last post I read in a long thread was and just jump me right there when I click on the thread (Instead of always being at post 1, even in a 10 page thread) over editing, but I've definitely been careful, and checked the preview, and then hit post and gone "Wait!"

I second hyperlocke on that: a preview function in the Q&A (similar to the forum thread one) would be great.... I just posted a new question and it has errors that I can't edit :(

Make sure you check the dates on these threads. This one is a few months old; there's a newer one that was active a few days ago.

I'll talk to yeaGO! about that one.
