Editing Comments

TappedOut forum

Is there a relatively simple way that it can be made possible to edit your own comments after they're posted? Just feel like it would solve a lot of typo issues and be useful if you thought of something to add and didn't want to make a whole new comment.

Nope. We have this handy "Preview your comment!" button to make sure you didn't make any typos, and double posting is not frowned upon here. I believe upgraded users can delete comments on their walls and maybe decks and binder, and maybe even comments they make elsewhere.

Walls, decks, binders.

Its a good idea that's been brought up before but nothing has ever come of it... that and adding a +/- to the binders for easy editing

The idea has been brought up before. The main arguments I've heard against it are that the website isn't hosted on a service that provides inherent editing, so it would have to be coded in manually, and the issues with people changing agreed upon trades.

Yeah, this website is first and foremost a deckbuilder. The forum technology is all hand crafted, presumably by yeaGO!. This whole edit comment thing comes up once every month or two, but nothing ever comes of it because we don't really need the feature, and it could cause a lot of problems with people changing things they said in trades or what not. (Which could be fixed by having a button to show the original post, but whatever.) I think it could be a useful feature, but it's really low on the priority list as far as I'm concerned.

The preview screen is supposed to mitigate the need for an edit button; you're meant to use it to catch errors.

If we were to implement an edit feature, we'd also need to provide edit histories, edit notifications, or a quoting feature. Otherwise, trade negotiations and even forum debates can be abused.

Also, TappedOut doesn't use vBulletin or something else that supports an edit feature. We'd have to add one, or give users access to edit commands in the admin site (something I'm not inclined to support).

Yeah, the trade issue is a good point. Definitely with you that the problems with that would outweigh the benefits of an edit button. I was just curious if it was ever brought up.
