Who should be allowed to choose answers for Q&A?

I have noticed that no matter who answers questions first on this website or how good the answer is it always will say that it is approved by Epokalyptik. I know that the person who asked the question can change the person who answered it but I still think this is wrong. I don't think the question should be "answered" unless the person who asked the question decides for themselves, not the automatic choice of Epokalyptic and then whoever the questioner picked. Let me know what you guys think about this down below.

Epochalyptik is god. He is awesome and Ive never seen his answers put to shame by anybody else's. Maybe he always selects himself because hes...you know...right? Also because he uh...oh yeah...knows. Epoch is love. Epoch is life.

I did not get all the way through this. All I saw was that Q&A is not just for magic questions, and it made me think of what it could become. Homework assistant hidden on a mtg site maybe?

What I think would be an easy way to help, is have the admins have a little admin thing by their name, then those people like myself could be like "oh he's and admin, he's a genius."

Ohthenoises says... #20
That might come in handy in the future SpartanCEL but right now there are like 3 mods total. Epoch, GO, and ChiefBell.

Didn't read all of this, but maybe add a way to link the ruling without giving points? Like give OP the ability to designate the point but have a box for mods to link the ruling beneath the question. Everyone wins?

I left for 4 hours, and this is what happens? How is this thread 7 pages long?
Is this the real life?

My thoughts have already been expressed by numerous users, so I'm just going to give a suggestion:
Some forums I've used for classes (Piazza, for example) use an endorsement system. We could have something similar, where admins can endorse a response while the original poster can endorse a response, whether they be one in the same or different. That way, the OP can reward the user for an answer they believe is best, and the admin can do the same. The only time an admin would have to change an answer is if the OP endorsed an entirely incorrect answer - if they choose a one-word answer, that's on them, but the other users viewing the question can still see what an admin believes to be the best answer.
Of course, this could lead to quite a few self-endorsed answers on Epoch's part, but it seems that this problem would be resolved so long as the OP is able to choose an answer themselves.

Gosh darn it duct tape you ruined our beautiful song with your words of logic.
On topic though - who cares about whose answer is marked as "accepted"? Like why does it even matter?

I've been working all day. And I'm sleep deprived, and I was too lazy to look up the correct lyrics. Atleast I did the rising E as sung. If you can't excuse my incorrectlyness, I have virtual cookies you can have that will make you forget :P

is the author of this thread still disappointed with epochalyptik selecting his own answers?
also, has Ohthenoises at any point in this thread posted the "welcome to T/O where the decks are made up and the points don't matter" picture because i remember seeing on page one where the author doubted epochalyptik's number one position because he selected his own answer.
sorry. i didn't particularly feel like reading pages 2-6 XD

I was leaving work and just saw the original post and thought to myself: "freaking new guy, this could get interesting..."
I was not disappointed when I returned for 7 pages of, whatever this was. And that's why I love this site. Great job all around people!
February 26, 2015 11:19 p.m.
but in reference to the title, yes. Epochalyptik does answer our questions. he is not a robot who is programmed to answer questions on T/O

@SpartanCEL: I proposed the idea before, but yeaGO's position on the matter is more or less that admins should be regular users that happen to have additional responsibilities, and that any user should be viewed as a legitimate resource. To some extent, I agree with that. However, I do still see value in identifying users who can help with certain issues.
An alternative, which I proposed in the same discussion, would be to allow users to tag [[mod]] or [[admin]] and thereby send a notification to everyone with either status.
Endorsing an incorrect answer is useless, and it would happen unless every OP that marked an incorrect answer came back later to correct it. Also, endorsement has the potential to be perceived as a popularity contest for the reasons stated above on this page.

I would appreciate the ability to tag admins/mods. Maybe yeaGO will decide to check out the problem with some peoples binder. hint hint
February 26, 2015 11:23 p.m.
Little high, little low.
Anyways, the accepted answer should be the answer that answers the question the best, the most in depth answer.

So just an idea here, but if the issue is points being rewarded for answering Q/A questions... Couldn't we make it so that only the author can award points for their question while still allowing a mod to highlight or select the best/most in-depth answer to that question for future reference?
That way the author is in charge of who gets points while the mods can make sure the best answer is ultimately recognized.

Did I miss the show? I have to say this was a good read. Now just gonna toss my change into this. I think Epochalyptik has done no wrong. Even if he answers a question then makes his answer the best answer. Sure it takes away the reason of picking your accpeted answer, but what you have to learn is that when you ask a question it is not just a question you asked. Many others have had the question and just havent asked it. If you ask a question and you get two answers and one is wrong and you pick the wrong one anyone else that looks will then get the wrong idea since you have accpeted it as correct. This website is a resource for everyone to use. I trust Epochalyptik with his answers. I am sure if he commented on a question and answered it correctly, but then was ninja'd and the other user was also correct and well detailed he would select that answer for you if you had not. Overall I think I was late to this party for a long winded comment but oh well.
