Feature Token Length and Visibility Issues

Thanks to the Best time to feature a deck? thread darleen created a few days ago, I was alerted to an issue that I thought was quite striking. The times in which my features had lasted have decreased since the last few months. Now I've taken some screen shots (I had to zoom out, apologize about the blurriness) of my feature list to demonstrate the changes in feature token use that have occurred in the past year and a half and the changes that occur seasonally.

I'm deriving my conclusion on two things: average clicks and average time the feature shows up for. In the past the average was about feature length time was 9-12 minutes long with the Spring season seeming to be 5-7 minutes long, with much more clicks than the current Spring season being 3-5 minutes long with frequent 0 click occurrences. While I understand there is the time in which I featured issue, I'll be testing later night times, once I get my next deck done for featuring, for some more information.

Now, this is an issue because if I'm going to be spending money on my feature tokens to get views and public feedback, I'd very much like to get my money's worth. As it stands, seasonal site population changes discourages the use of feature tokens when the site becomes most populated (seems to be spring time) and the overall popularity of the site itself has decreased the value of the feature token.

My suggestion for a solution to this problem is to create separate feature format categories. Either have tabs for different formats on the front page or have an option to only view features from certain formats in the settings option.

Thoughts? Opinions?

the ads get the same amount of views regardless. the length of time they run doesn't have anything to do with anything at all.

if a billion people visited the site at one time, your feature would last :03 seconds.

features get a constant amount of eyeballs. whether those eyeballs click are another matter.

i will do some thinking about it. it used to show it to the same person 3 times, so maybe with more people its showing it to more people but fewer times. it could also just be normal ad saturation, which definitely happens to ads (decks) that people have already seen.

Thing is, this bant blink deck has never gotten start up high counts yeaGO, and other decks like my Mardu Edge and Scale had been upvoted numerous times before those final few times listed.

I would really appreciate it if you gave my proposal some thought. If nothing else, it would give people who only wish to see decks of a certain format the option to. Lets say Standard players who have no interest in Legacy or Vintage or Tiny Leaders could see Standard exclusive stuff.

yeah, i thought about trying to join people's interested formats into the mix. i was initially worried that i wouldn't really be able to serve it up to enough people but its possible now that the site is bigger its exactly what the doctor ordered. I certainly want to serve those deck ads to get them maximum clickability. that feature is certainly a valid one.

maybe for the first hour they will only run to people who have said they are interested in a format. then after that they will run normal. that could give you the boost you're looking for but it could also lead to quicker saturation.

Any support is better than no support.

I like the idea of being able to see a certain format featured. I have no feedback for Legacy or Standard, but I love Modern and Commander. It would definitely be beneficial I think.

CanadianShinobi, I agree word to word.

Also, could there be some kind of timer that could be used to feature the deck? I mean, the best times to feature is when I'm sleeping. Time zones can suck :/

@Femme_Fatale +tokens. i made some changes, continue your researches.

deck ads now only show, in their first hour, to people who have subscribed to the format of their deck in their 'favorite formats' setting.

Initial results look great.

One thing to bear in mind is that views were busted lately so it was showing ads got no additional views. That's just misreporting.

You will all be happy to know that since the above changes were added, featured decks are getting their highest clicks ever, with the exception of the first week they appeared on the site back in 2012.
