Why was general moved to the middle/ bottom of the forums? it is disconcerting.

So that hopefully the amount of non-General posts would be cut down and actually go where they belong. Epoch's been getting tired of moving them, and frankly I don't blame him.

it was because users were posting things in the wrong forums... This way they have to scroll through and read the forum descriptions, so that the general forum was/ is not a just dumping ground for lazy people to post whatever they wanted to here... See the forum post by Epoch... it's one of the featured forum posts.

I agree that the change is a little surprising for those used to seeing General as one of the topmost forums (i.e. the standard forum orientation for most websites), but I hope that it will force users to pick the proper forum rather than posting in General.

This post, for example, is going to be moved to the TappedOut forum because it's about the site itself (I can understand why it was posted here, though).

See the featured thread for more information or to discuss the move.
