"Help flag" feedback

TappedOut forum

Open discussion. I'll start it with a question:

Has anyone using the needs_help flag noticed help has come?

Not really for me...

But the plus sign do make me want to look at the deck

While I have not used it myself, I can say that plus sign makes me more likely to check out the deck and offer some advice. So, while I think the aesthetic of the sign is clasing with T/0 aesthetic, it is a solid option.

My only concern is that an eventual overuse of the plus will have an adverse effect on its power.

I don't think it will get overused since you can only tag one deck at a time

I'm not sure it has had a large impact. Though I'm a standard player and the community seems to largely favor Modern/EDH over STD. Just an observation. However, it is more of a draw to myself who likes to help where I can.

You can only tag one deck at a time, but if everyone tags the deck that they cycle (which is already about half, I would say), then the feature will be completely useless as every deck will have that appellation.

Anyhow, I haven't really used it at all because I generally only comment on the decks I know about, sign or no sign. But that's just me. I think that the main worry is that everyone uses this feature because it's more likely to attract comments, wether they need it or not. I can't say that I have a solution to that problem, but I believe that that's going to be the biggest worry.

The icon could maybe be changed....it wasn't clear to me what the "plus" meant, I had to look it up in the forums. It looked like a shortcut to upvoting the deck. At least have a tooltip "deck feedback requested".

I've got a few measures to avoid overuse. Perhaps limit it to decks with, say, 500 views or less. Perhaps take the deck out of the help queue for the day when it gets a comment.

June 12, 2015 10:48 a.m.

'500 views or less' concept is terrible, since there might be an old deck that has to undergone some changes like from Standard to Modern or when a new set came out

I think the current system is fine, and of course that would be some abuse here and there(not that I encourage it) but unless it cause a really big problem, I think it's fine as it is

Well I think that these would be considered eventual measures IF it gets out of hand (which it's not right now, at least to my knowledge). The comment number idea might work, but I would probably make it two because all it takes is some jerk to say "This deck sucks" to get it off the queue.

I just hate seeing people who use the 'deck help' symbol on a deck with like 200 upvotes and 50 comments. Its just another list they can feature their deck on, to some people.

I am more likely to check decks with the symbol.

magnetcrocodile my thought was that those cases would already have plenty of previous subscribers to chip in.

I was also thinking the feed could work backwards--your deck stays at the top until it gets a comment and drops out. New decks go to the bottom. That's a guaranteed comment per deck.

June 12, 2015 1:12 p.m.

That would probably take forever to cycle through decks though...

It could have the opposite effect and provide incentive. If you're at the bottom you want to reach the top, so help out a few to help yours reach the top.

That would only happen if everyone got the message that that's how it worked. It would need to be added to the note explaining the "needs help" checkbox, so everyone would be guaranteed to see it.

Also maybe a filter should be added to the main page so you browse decks that needed help exclusively? The way there is for Commander and Planechase and such.
