Help with inventory mechanics

Can someone please explain to me the mechanics of the inventory function. If I have a card listed in the In Decks or Binder Have tab then why is it not automatically entered in the Amount tab as well? Is the Amount tab not all of the cards that I have in my inventory to include those cards already in decks? What am I missing? Is there an article posted that explains all of this? Thanks!

This is how I understand it:

  • The Amount column is the quantity of each card in your Inventory. Your inventory is separate from your binder; it is all of the cards you own that are not for trade.
  • The Binder Have column is the quantity of each card in your binder to trade.
  • The Binder Want column is the quantity of each card in your binder you'll trade for.
  • The In Decks column is the quantity of each card in decks you have synced with your Inventory. Decks that are synced with your inventory will show card counts in the In Decks column. These are are from the Mainboard and Sideboard - NOT Maybeboard and Acquireboard.

I have avoided using the "Sync with Inventory" function on decks because it doesn't take into account with cards you own and which cards you need to acquire. It requires that you own the entire deck, sideboard included, for it to be useful.

There is currently not a tutorial of sorts to help explain this. I'm not completely clear myself, but hopefully I've cleared up some confusion.

I think that the problem with the acquireboard is now fixed, ducttapedeckbox

Ooh awesome, yeaGO! How does it work?

If I have a 60-card deck, where 45 of them are in my inventory and 15 are not, and I add the 15 to my Acquireboard, the 45 get synced to the inventory in the In Decks section and the 15 get added to my Wants?

don't think it creates wants, but it could.

The way I envisioned it (your site, not mine) is that the acquire board isn't needed. "Sync with Inventory" means, to me, that once you check the box, any card in the deck list that is in your invnetory gets moved to "In Decks" and any card that isn't in your inventory is added to your Wants.

Shouldn't every card that is either In Deck or Binder Have also automatically get added to Amount? I know it's not like that now but to me Amount is every card you have in your inventory, wether it's in a deck or in your binder. It's just a bit confusing to me. Is there a better way to keep track of inventory?

Your inventory, by the site's definition, is all cards you own that are not for trade and are not in decks. For example, I have unlisted cards that are part of my collection; they are not in a deck or for trade.

I think you're looking for a "Total" column, that would show the total number of copies of each card that you own, regardless of their location (in a deck, for trade, in your collection). This could get tricky because we'd have to make sure that there isn't any overlap in the counting.

So if I have a card listed in In Decks or Binder Have then I should leave the total in the Amount column at zero? Unless I have others of that same card that aren't for trade and are not in a deck?

Say I have 5 Goblin Pile-drivers. If I have 2 in decks and 1 in the In Binder column because I want to trade it, then I should have 2 listed in the Amount column, correct?

Sorry for all the questions, I just wanted to get things straight before I spend a good deal of time imputing all my cards.

Aha don't worry about it, I went through the same thing a few weeks ago when I uploaded my Inventory and binder. It's one hell of a task.

Yes, your Goblin Piledriver example is how I interpret the system. Maybe yeaGO can confirm?

The way I would go about uploading your binder/Inventory is to go to your trade binder and list your Haves and Wants. Then, go to the Inventory and list all cards that aren't in decks and aren't for trade.

Another example of Inventory-worthy cards is "deck-building tools." I play control, so I've accumulated playsets of all fetchlands and shocklands that I may want in the future. They're currently not in any decks, but also not for trade. They're there if I decide to build a deck with them.
