How does the Draft Sim work?

I want to get a little bit more into draft, so I tested the Draft Sim with bots. Which got me wondering: How do the bots decide what to pick?

Very poorly. Typically they just take the highest ranked card, regardless of color. Only test with other users

Yeah, many of their decks looked like 5-color-meh-stuff. But some stayed in a 3 color combination (especially Mardu and Jeskai).

I guess the ranking is based on how early users picked the card in Draft Sim?

You guessed it. It does try to stick to 3 colors.

I wrote a more algorithmic and machine learned approach a while back and it was intensive but the picks weren't that much better. The hardware for that eventually fell apart but I've got a new system in place, I just haven't gotten around to making the bots pick from it. Its in the works.
