How does TO ranking work?

TappedOut forum

HOW?!

It doesn't seem to be directly correlated with Fixing cards and giving accepted suggestions. So how DOES it work then?...

Ohthenoises says... #2

The points don't matter.

For the love of God, search the forum for topics before making one.

This is today's T/O rank thread, apparently.

This is also why we need to just make a page that talks about rank.

Scorprix says... #4

I know, but I really want to get top 100 on here so I can change the text after my username on my page here on TO. I know it's useless, but it seems so cool. Also, not all decks on here are fake...

July 31, 2014 11:37 a.m.

zandl says... #5

No, but most decks here don't matter.

July 31, 2014 11:39 a.m.

Scorprix says... #6

@zandl: Dude, TO needs to clarify MANY things, not just TO rank. And no one has even answered the question yet, even after 3 useless posts.

July 31, 2014 11:40 a.m.

Scorprix says... #7

Ok, I can't argue with your logic this time. : )

July 31, 2014 11:41 a.m.

zandl says... #8

T/O Rank goes up with commenting, card-fixes, and general site activity. Give good card suggestions, comment with constructive criticism and calculated thought, and just be a chill bro.

July 31, 2014 11:47 a.m.

zandl says... #9

Of course, just doing these things occasionally won't make you go up very far. Rank #100 isn't a fixed spot; rank is assigned by how active people are. You'll have to become more active than whoever is in that spot.

Everything you do on here gives you points. Literally posting, commenting, fixing cards, ect. Honestly i wish the top one hundred would be at least the top one fifty

zandl says... #12

At the end of the day, if reaching the top 100 active users on a Magic website just so you can change a title that nobody will see is a real goal for you at this point in your life, it may be time to sign up for college courses.

July 31, 2014 11:52 a.m.

zandl says... #13

That's why we say the points don't matter.

Seriously, I'm starting to think I or someone else should write an article on ranking, because to be honest, this is ridiculous.

July 31, 2014 11:54 a.m.

Scorprix says... #16

I know they don't matter, but it's something to look forward to.

July 31, 2014 11:56 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #17

Hey zandl. Some people care for useless things (me included) but seriously i value the fact that people are starting to recognize my name where i post over changing a silly rank.

July 31, 2014 11:56 a.m.

zandl says... #18

But making a new topic every single day is way too much fun!

July 31, 2014 11:56 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #19

As the second most active user on this site I can tell you this: I didn't get where I am because I desired it. I got here by being genuinely interested in helping people.

That and a flame war with zandl that is now ancient history. :P Many comments were had. Good times.

July 31, 2014 11:56 a.m.

zandl says... #20

Flame wars and troll arguments definitely help.

Not that I endorse them, by any means.

July 31, 2014 11:57 a.m.

Scorprix says... #21

@GoldGhost012: That would be nice, but for now there are WAY more important thing that need articles, like how to write them. |:(

Hmmmm. Ya know whenever these threads come up the same guys come to derail it. Almost as if....It's a CONSPIRACY

July 31, 2014 12:01 p.m.

zandl says... #23

In truth, articles have become a lot better than they were, say, a year ago. I can only assume this is because spell-check was invented since then and a lot of people just weren't used to it at first.

July 31, 2014 12:01 p.m.

zandl says... #24

Maybe we're such high up on the rank ladder because all we do is complain about rank topics.

Scorprix says... #27

Trolling can be fun, but it's rude and cruel. Not ok by any means. I too like to help people, but certain things don't add up. I was just questioning if this system works right. Compare ChiefBell and Femme_Fatale...

July 31, 2014 12:05 p.m.

Scorprix says... #28

Wow. My comment popped up really late...

July 31, 2014 12:06 p.m.

zandl says... #29

It's hard to justifying the abolition of something that neither (a) has an effect on the site nor (b) would be worth the time to even abolish.

July 31, 2014 12:06 p.m.

Scorprix says... #30

But then again, what's the purpose of the ranking?

July 31, 2014 12:09 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #31

True. Although for the number of threads that epoch has to send to BE it could save some time.

Actually I believe they belong in Social now don't they? I dunno...

July 31, 2014 12:10 p.m.

zandl says... #32

There isn't one, really. It's just a cute, little addition to give T/O more character.

July 31, 2014 12:14 p.m.

Scorprix says... #38

Sorry I swore, it's just that article writing is really complicated, and it takes forever to get them approved.

July 31, 2014 12:15 p.m.

zandl says... #39

Article writing here is just as complicated as article writing anywhere else, real-life or internet.

Getting them approved is just a matter of a very small handful of people taking time out of their personal lives to proof-read something that someone else wrote.

July 31, 2014 12:19 p.m.

Scorprix says... #40

@zandl: It's also that only one person on this whole site actually tells you how to write them. And you need peoples emails, which most of the people don't like to give.

July 31, 2014 12:22 p.m.

zandl says... #41

Do you really need to be told how to write them? Just use some basic HTML, follow proper English writing structure, and make it cohesive.

July 31, 2014 12:36 p.m.

Scorprix says... #42

I don't know HTML. Most people don't. Most people probably don't assume you need to email people. Most people would use logic and assume that there is something similar to the forum post system.

July 31, 2014 12:41 p.m.

Dalektable says... #43

I really do believe a small page or something that's just like "Rank and Top 100 Users" needs to be added. Right now points add little to nothing to the site, besides a cool name change from deckling and honor for your family. And a large amount of dead goat tokens in your backyard. I think rank either needs to be reinforced with a page addressing what rank is and acknowledging higher up users, or it should be removed.

July 31, 2014 12:42 p.m.

Scorprix says... #44

@Dalektable: Your idea seems good to me. Except every one should be allowed do change the deckling thing.

It mocks me. ):|

July 31, 2014 12:49 p.m.

zandl says... #46

HTML is so easy, and I feel confident saying that because (a) I taught myself and (b) you really only need basic, basic HTML skills. I'm taking, like,

page-breaks

and blockquotes
are the hardest things you'll do.

July 31, 2014 12:50 p.m.

Dalektable says... #47

Ohthenoises That was golden.

After realizing I wanted to write articles and navigate this site better I spent a good few hours learning basic HTML, and that was a great decision on my part. Makes things a lot simpler, and being able to link things is nice.

July 31, 2014 12:52 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #48

Scorprix: basically all the HTML you need to know is already the kind you use when commenting on decks or in forums.

July 31, 2014 1 p.m.

Scorprix says... #49

Dude, either way, you don't need HTML to write an article, I just said that to post an article is far more complicated than it needs to be.

July 31, 2014 1:08 p.m.

DarkHero says... #50

They don't matter until you reach T/O rank 100 or better, then you get to change from a deckling to something else
