Improved Draft Bots

Hey there,

I wanted to announce that I am experimenting with a new approach to draft bots. Leveraging reams and gobs of human pick-data, the new bots should pick in patterns very similar to humans. I'm still working on things, but input and observations are welcome.

Bear in mind this doesn't affect cube draft data, yet. But that's to come.

Anecdotally, they should be faster, too

Does picking more like humans mean that they will raredraft money cards that are out of their own colours, if they are considered strong or whatever? Every time I see a planeswalker go around in the Daily MTG booster draft simulator, I cringe because it almost never happens in real life.

Some drafts are now run on a "turn in your rares" format. You make your picks, play your games, then turn in the rares at the end. Those rares then end up being picked(for ownership) in the order of finishing. This is to stop people from rare drafting money cards in favor of cards that will help their deck.

I think we should assume that the draft sim on this site runs like that.

That sounds like a team draft Vic not a normal draft... However when I draft on here I do not draft as if it was a normal one but as a team one instead since I cannot take these cards and sell them after I am done.

I'll point out that my store rare-drafts. It's not exactly uncommon, at least in my area.

Sounds like the frequency which bots will raredraft is about as ambiguous as whether humans do it, too.

Instead of improving draft bots, how about enslaving a bunch of magic players, and replacing draft bots with them? That way, there will be truly human draft picks.

There's often more than 8 open drafts at any given time. That people want to draft solo isn't something I can really control.

The difference is that "turn in your rares" is a system that is externally enforced, so nobody in a pod would raredraft, whereas in other settings, only select individuals will raredraft, and only for select cards that they want.

Older players often won't raredraft a Pithing Needle because they already have a copy or two, but a player who started with M11 might take it because he or she has never had a chance to pick one up before.

There is also the possibility that people will raredraft just to cut good cards from the draft - sure you might be building a Rakdos deck, but you'd be a fool to pass a Jace, Architect of Thought that you open in pack three.

Just ran into a draftbot error, it second picked a Search Warrant over a New Prahv Guildmage .

Is this working for everyone else or something?

Every time I try and solo-draft, it's either skipping the timer backwards and throwing the original booster back up (in Cube Draft), or randomly booting me after a while (in normal draft).

yeaGO!, if it helps - Windows 7, Firefox 16.0.2.

I think I've tried it on IE for the same results, too. :-(
