Interesting Idea

TappedOut forum

I know it's probably out of the question because it probably requires a Cortana-like AI to work properly, but for those of us who are combo retarded I thought it would be sweet if your deck stats told you possible combos. I'm sure the Johnnies would disagree and think this was boring or unexciting, but for someone who's more of a Timmy it would be great

Are you saying that tappedout would look at the different cards in a deck and sift through them to find combos? Man, i can't wait to upload a Doran, the Siege Tower EDH deck, or a Ghave, Guru of Spores with 20+ combos.

In all: if possible, it should be a button that you press. If it does it for each deck, then that would be a bit frantic. And there are so many infinite/non-infinite combos. Would Nova Chaser plus Flamekin Harbinger count as a combo.

As cool as it would be, it would be to complicated. Installing it wouldn't be fun, and figuring how to distinguish good synergies and combos would be too difficult. All of this being said, i am a timmy (i think), i wouldn't want to have this for simplicities sake.

for now here is a good place to look them up yourself. What I typically do, or while playing/play testing, I find them, for example Dovescape and Guile + random non-creature spell didn't register as an infinite combo, till I saw it mid game.

That sounds interesting, but I'm not sure how somebody could make that program... I mean, unless the combos are pre-recorded and it just points them out..

Finding new combos would just be crazy... Imagine a computer system that just point out Ari Lax's Dream Halls combo!!! I'd cry...

The process would look like this:

DB has a set of known combos/synergies (say from the link I posted), then it would search that list for cards in the deck, match the results with other cards in the deck.

For example, it saw you had Angelic Renewal , it would look up all the synergy/combos with Angelic Renewal , then look in the deck for cards that the syngery/combo had, say it finds Sun Titan , then it would look for a sac outlet, then if it found one, it would show you this combo, with your sac outlet, or if missing a sac outlet in the deck suggest one, or if it didn't find Sun Titan suggest Angelic Renewal . It could also suggest all combos with that card.

Personally, I like the latter, search the list for a card, search the deck for matching cards in synergies, show you those, suggest others based around that card.

But the work to make this happen would be ugh. Though I might consider doing this as a side project, that would be fun for me. consider, no guarantees.

I have attempted this a few times. It's tough to really figure out a combo vs an ordinarily popular card.

I could add a highlighted combos feature to decks and use that I guess.

I like the idea of clicking on a card's name, and on the card's page it shows you all possible combos previously recorded by a combo-database... A Combase if you will

Combase...I like it lol @yeaGO! I figured what would have been difficult was getting the program to notice synergies, seems a bit too intelligent for a computer at the level of technology we have right now...jesus, I just imagined Siri trying to do that...

gnarlicide says... #9

Dude, Siri would fuck that up. She would send your ass to Dairy Queen and get you lost twice in the process. Lol.

December 16, 2013 10:47 p.m.

"Siri, search Show and Tell combos."

"I found 12 Strip Clubs near your area."

"... Which is closest?"

"Fair warning, the girls here are, by far, the lowest quality I've seen in Philly"

"Just thinking about my experience here makes me want to take a very hot antibacterial shower and wash away the memories."

Not a problem, it still cracked me up, haha!

If you're excited, does that mean it could actually be a possibility?

Well, I am glad that we were able to bring this discussion back to the original idea. I was starting to get worried about reading this at work, lol. The best news is, I don't care about what my boss thinks... I am journalist. I could just say I am researching stuff. My job rules.

Lucky devil! My current or about-to-be job both have no-phone policies, haha

Oh boy! More things to add in a surplus amount! First card images and now combos~

One thing yeaGO!, is we should have something very similar to what we do with the add card functions. Make it upgraded user only, and have a detailed and straight to the point no nonsense description about how the combo works and what set it's for. Also give a few describing features of what type of combo is, like, "Infinite", "Draw", "Mill", "Sacrifice", "Damage", "Mana" etc. Perhaps have those as searchable features?

Also, not every card in the combo would work for every-deck. Let's say a combo requires Viscera Seer as a sac-outlet, but the deck you're running doesn't work with Viscera Seer (somehow) and you need a different option. I think in such scenarios we should have a list of best possible sac-outlets, a couple for each colour (if possible). Either that or we just put in the direct link to the gatherer page that shows all the sac-outlets possible for that combo.

And I think we should have a maximum card combo limit for those adding combos so the list doesn't get insane. I would say 4, and even then that's pushing it.

Femme_Fatale that's what I was thinking, just like a short list of cards that would be possible combos, nothing more and nothing less
