New Card suggestion feature

TappedOut forum

I just got a notification from yeaGO about the new card suggestion box and while it's better layout it still has the one thing that bugged me about the original version that will be extremely hard to fix and that is the card suggestions were almost completely irrelevant to the deck list

I don't know if that's fixable though? Because that requires the website to understand strategy and things - which like, software and code in general really isn't good at doing.

I tried it out on one of my current standard decks, and I found many of the suggestions to be for cards that are no longer in standard. I'm not sure how easy this is to fix. Aside from that though, the standard legal suggestions were mostly ones I had considered and were listed in my sideboard or maybe board. It also did suggest cards that were already in the deck too. I like the idea, but I feel there has to be a way to refine the suggestions to cards that are legal in that deck's format, or aren't already in the deck. The idea is good, just needs some tweaking.

I tested it several times on different decks, and for most of those the suggestions were pretty relevant (in a much better way than it was). However, T/O is almost saying to me that my favorite deck (W splash black Death and Taxes) sucks and should be instead a Simic infect deck or a Puresteel Paladin+Doran, the Siege Tower combo deck... :'(

I also noticed that it looks like the programm focuses more on the colors you play than on the tags... The latter would be more convenient, in my opinion. :)

It appears to work on my decks as well. The only wierd thing I found was the Suggestion of putting Tarmogoyf or Eternal Witness into my deck JWiley's Modern Storm. It's probably keying off the Manamorphose in the maindeck.

By the way, it looks like it works perfectly fine without tags for some decks, like Goblins, 5 colors combo or esper control. :)

You should all make use of the new exclude_colors field on the deck form if you are looking to fine tune suggestions or simply get rid of a color slice from the charts. thanks for the awesome feedback gang =)

Also added a splash indication but I'm not sure how I'll use it yet, but its true, everything shouldn't be Simic.

Guess this post answers my question on the other thread ...

I will definitely try that exclude function.

Just for reference, Here's what I just got suggested on my RG burn combo deck Chain of Pain.

I'm especially surprised about snappy and pyro, because the deck has only 8 instants and no sorceries. Would be cool if the engine could check if a suggested card gets enough support or even find cards that have synergies with the rest of the deck. For example, a certain number of permanents with "when ~ enters the battlefield" could make it suggest flicker or bounce cards. Maybe use the data collected in the combase for suggestions, too.

The combase is a mess. If we used data from the combase we would just get more of a mess.

Now this is embarrassing...

I somehow messed up when putting the 2 in the URL, so my results were from the current version. Please disregard the list in my previous post.

The preview version gave me a plethora of suggestions that are in-color. Only a few are useful, but even those that aren't are often relevant or good cards even without much synergy. I'll try a few more decks now.

i am open to re-setting the combo database but let us please not bring that up in the context of this discussion. i need to do one more update before I can do that.

sounds like the old one is a pretty big disaster by this point. thanks a lot for your feedback and by all means please keep it coming.

With the new setting that allows to exclude colors from the suggestions, it's starting to show interesting things! However, if my deck is a mono white one and if I decide to exclude for exemple blue mana, will cards like Judge's Familiar or Azorius Guildmage show up in the suggestions? Because those are definitively playable since it's hybrid mana...

November 13, 2015 10:08 a.m.

yeaGO says... #21

kinda. i need to clean up decks if they don't have any ability to produce U mana but has U cards to maybe throw them in the mono-white bucket.

One small improvement that comes to mind would be linking to the card page, so one can look up the price or the different printings of a suggested card. No point in adding 4 Tarmogoyf to a casual or budget deck and then realizing that the set costs around 600 bucks.
