Next round of layout feedback

TappedOut forum

First and foremost, the layout element that is the most apparent to me at the moment.

The new thread creation interface has both good parts and bad parts. The good part is that It actually takes quite a bit fewer steps to create a thread. The annoying part is that the thread creation interface no longer behaves like other forums, so some people will(at least initially) look for a button near the top and bottom of the page to create a thread. There's no reason why you can't do both. Maybe there still is a button to bring up a thread creation page, but I haven't found it yet.

On the topic of forums the background and context boxes are too similar in color. This is a minor detail, but it does make it look more pretty.

I see that the logo is no longer obstructing links. this is a good thing.

Nobody is going to know what a Cmtstrm or a Dexstrm is until they mouse over the links. This is effectively mystery meat navigation, and generally considered to be bad form. Instead of shortening the links, you might be able to combine some of the navigation columns at the top.

As I write this, I don't see the preview button anymore. While I do agree with having a post button right on the page, a preview button always is nice as an option, especially if you're using markdown. again, you can easily have buttons for both.

Also, I feel as though It's easier on the eyes when the OP looks more similar to regular posts. It can be distinguished from the rest of the posts, sure, but it really should look like a part of the discussion.

Looks nice! I just wish there was still the option to customize what decks show up in the "MTG Decks" section of one's profile page, right under the trade binder.

And the "new notifications" red doesn't go away for me.

Same for me. The notifier is red all the time, whether or not I have a new notification.

Maybe, as a suggestion (dont have a clue if I'm in the right forum)... there could be an option to clear our notification button?

I am also having an issue with a red notification icon. The new look of the notification tab is pretty, but I'm not sure I'm sold on it yet.

I don't think it is that big of an issue but on Chrome if you are using the StumbleUpon bar it obscures things at the top of the page and makes the Notifications popup go half offscreen at the top of the page. I don't know why it does that myself and it didn't do anything like that in prior versions. Hopefully this helps. :P

I guess the always red notifications is answered.

A couple things I like. The new bar at the top is nice :3 Also, the way that settings, extras, logout, and profile are all in one tab is pretty cool too :)

Things I am not liking are the fact I cannot seem to organize my decks the way I want on my profile page.

I have yet to check everything out and will probably update my post with more thoughts.

I don't like that the site is wider now. I'm a crappy situation having to use 800x600 resolution and I have to zoom out on the site pretty far to fit it all in.

Just a problem for me though, probably not something to consider.

OH, one thing. My notification thing always shows that I have new ones, even when I don't.

Tony, it was 940 before and its 940 now. didn change. why aren't you upgraded?

umbrothe, tell me how you want to organize them? ideally? why do you want to organize them?

June 23, 2012 3:18 a.m.

Dritz says... #15

I liked organizing them because I am more proud of some of my decks and want to keep them near the top whereas I would like it if my more shaky or less important ones don't stay near the top.

IAmKingTony says... #16

oops didn't see that others had mentioned the notification thing

I actually had to shrink it a little bit before, but now it seems I have to do it another time to see the decks/notifications/account thing

only a temporary problem for me, my monitor crapped out so I'm having to use my TV via s-video and it only lets me do 800x600 resolution (at least the screen is giant). gonna go pick up a VGA/RCA converter and hope that works better.

As far as the notification tab goes, I almost feel as though this is a downgrade. Before It didn't really interfere with the page at all, it was easy to click and go to recent activity. Now, It obscures half the page, and is a little annoying.

It's also not sorted correctly, IT starts with 12 hours ago, goes down to 1 hour ago, and from there, it jumps to 14 hours ago, and sorts in ascending order.

June 23, 2012 6:41 a.m.

@yeaGO!: Well much like Dritz said, I like to organize my decks to the ones that are more important/ones I like better on top and the less important/not so worried about near the bottom.

Also, @Sam_I_am, it did that before the upgrade as well. at least now it's in a box and more easy to read/less clumped up than before.

I enjoy the new navigation menu, It's a lot cleaner,

I have a few gripes about the notification and toolbox tabs, I much preferred the old drop-down style. Having a new window pop up is just annoying in my opinion. It forces me to close it when I'm done which is a good thing, but having a 600x600 window just to see my decks isn't as nice as a small and tidy drop-down menu. Maybe it's been changed for a reason, but the search and account menus are still drop-down, and they close when I click outside of it automatically which is awesome, I think the notification and toolbox should follow suit.

Thanks a lot.

The "stats table" or whatever it is over on the right side of my profile is overlapping with part of the text I've put in there, which in turn seems to be blocked off incorrectly from the area where the table and the map go.

thanks Rhad. that's a tricky component but I will do something else with that. mostly i'm wishing i had a better place to put the map.

I didn't really notice to many changes, the deck box is a bit clunky after being on the site for a few before the change I can say I liked the deck box like it was before the change.

Um other than that maybe a forum link bad like other forums have so I don't have to click the forums tab to get back to the main page. IDK ether way Its just a slight annoyance cause I have a slower internet connection. A drop bar to the forums would make forum surfing easier.
