This is in response to seeing what happened in this thread.

Okay, so I'm going to make a numerical list, and the numbers I'm going to type are "2, 4, 6, 8".

  1. Two
  2. Four
  3. Six
  4. Eight
Why does this happen? I don't remember the site's auto-formatting always working this way.

2 Two

4 Four

6 Six

8 Eight

  1. Two
  2. Four
  3. Six
  4. Eight
2) Two

4) Four

6) Six

8) Eight

Its a feature of Hypertext Markup so that it automatically turns any numeric into an ordered list. It only occurs when you place a period after the number so all you have to remember is use a different punctuation mark if you wish to not have a list.

Word. Now that I think about it, I've probably mostly used the 1) notation in the past, which is why it cooperated with me then. Thanks for that.
