Online Status Indicator
TappedOut forum

On other forums of which I am a member, there is an icon on a user's profile, next to their name, that indicates if they are online at that moment; if the user is logged in, the icon is a bright green, but, if they are not logged in, the icon is a dull gray.
That feature is immensely useful for knowing if a user is online, and, thus, how long it may take for them to respond to a post, so would it be possible to have such a feature on this forum?

As long as there's an option to disable it, I'd be perfectly happy with it.

wait. how does that work? Whenever i open T/O i'm already logged in...

It would be less a "oh, X is logged in", but more a "oh, X has visited T/O within the last 30 seconds". Or at least that's what my knowledge of computer science/coding would tell me (which is a high school computer programming course, so not very much).

We currently have a "last activity" stat on user pages. That seems more useful overall, although the ideas aren't mutually exclusive.

The last activity also takes sometime to update, so this option would be nice, provided that we had an option to turn it off, like Jex said.

You all would literally see me as being online 24/7, as I'm online pretty much all day with class and everything and I always have TO pulled up on a tab in Firefox. Lol

This would be useful for organizing the tournaments that we have going.
