What is the playtest feature and how does it work?

It allows you to 'goldfish' (play the deck without an opponent) without owning/proxying the cards. It's useful if you want to test the average speed of the deck, how often you draw a card, or other small things like that :)

It's definately worth playtesting. One of the things you'll hear a lot is people saying the shuffler is weird, like it gives bad hands to much. I disagree 100%. If you load up Lantern Control, the most consistent Bloom Titan decks, the most Consistent Legacy combo decks you'll find you do combo or whatever quickly a good portion of the time. Basically the playtest feature on this site is very unforgiving towards bad mana bases and card ratios.

Though it may be frustrating getting bad hand after bad hand keep tweaking your deck until you've made the chance of a bad hand as small as possible while still being able to do what it needs to do.

how do I get the deck on to the playtest board? I've never been able to playtest any deck, it just opens the board with all the buttons and everything but no cards, no library, no hand, nothing. do I have to pay to use the playtester?

No, you don't have to pay. Are you going into one of your decks and clicking the blue play test button to the left of the decklist?

yea I've tried all kinds of stuff, clicking on the left side from the deck page, clicking on the right side on my profile page, I've tried everyone of my decks, tried some other people's decks. I thought maybe I needed someone to play against until I say your earlier comment

one thing though, I watched some videos and it looks like the board isn't showing the bottom panel where the hand appears, idk maybe i'll try zooming out

Try Firefox or Chrome.

Win7 with Chrome (45.0.2454.99) works just fine for me.

Also be wary of your internet connection and size of deck. Large deck sizes can make the playtester take much longer than normal, and internet connections can cut out your loading sequence preventing anything from happening. You'll know if something is up when you wait long enough and the progress bar turns red and an error of sort pops up underneath it. If it never does and it stays a green bar for a long period of time, then that is also a call for alarm.
