Please add Heroes of the Realm cards to the database

TappedOut forum

Hello,

I'm building a deck that requires one Heroes of the Realm's card. Could you please add them to TappedOut's card image inventory? Specifically, the companion Treizeci, Sun of Serra. Please let me know how I can help y'all with the uploads.

I'm a bit hesitant on these as they aren't actually magic cards. Heroes of the Realm are effectively commemorative awards for employees and imo I'd wish I could remove all the old Richard Garfield family cards too as they are in a similar line.

Femme_Fatale Yes, but what's the point of a deck building website that doesn't have a complete card database? I bet I'm not the only one who is trying to add them to a list, even though we'll never own or play with them irl.

I have a bit of a backlog so it'll have to be done after that. Might be a few weeks or so.

Heroes of the Realm cards aren't MTG cards. They're more akin to "bonuses". WOTC is known to be stingy to their employees in that, in lieu of raised and bonuses they get things like discounts, products and similar stuff.

For example, where I work, we get a "Porkformance" (Pork Performance) certificate. I have been doing industrial ammonia refrigeration maintenance for the past two years for the largest dried meats facility... in the world. We produce over THREE MILLION POUNDS of dried meat... per. week. My responsibility is maintaining the industrial ammonia refrigeration systems for it.

We had a water line rupture, and where I live it was 10° F outside. So it froze and began causing problems.

I fixed it.

So they gave me a silly little certificate with my silly little name on it and a silly little note of "For preventing blah blah blah".

The cert is 100% worthless except I can cash it in for $10 bucks off the company store if I want to buy like, idk a packet of meatballs or bacon or something.

Effectively worthless, and given out in lieu of an actual meaningful gift or compensation. You know, because laws.

Anywho... cards such as Sol, Advocate Eternal was printed for like 3 or 4 employees.

These cards are rumored to remain at their respective buildings, aren't allowed to be sold or traded, can't be printed or published, etc.

I've even heard a rumor that WOTC has an internal rule that if you are bestowed (Eh? Eh?? Lol) a legendary creature, you and only you are allowed to use them as a Commander.

The only way to actually get one is to either work at WOTC and be awarded it, or to ̶p̶r̶o̶x̶y̶ them (DON'T DO THAT; TAPPEDOUT DOESN'T ADVOCATE IT) (also hehe 2nd pun).

Effectively what this means is... ya might as well try to tag a Pokemon card in your deck.

TypicalTimmy nice little story, but as far as Heroes of the Realms is concerned, it is kinda pointless to argue that they aren't MtG cards.

  1. They were produced and distributed by WotC.
  2. They function within the rules of MtG.
  3. Their physical dimensions don't differ from other MtG cards.
  4. They include trademarked symbols.

Legality and scarcity do not determine whether something is a MtG card.

Femme_Fatale: Is there a way that I can add these HotR and the Unknown Event cards to the databse by myself? (or any other way I could help you out with your workload)

Hey MindBoogaloo, could you cool it a bit? Dismissing someone's argument by calling it a narrative doesn't make you smart or right, it just makes you sound like an asshole.

Also, on bullet #1 you state that an MTG card must be produced and distributed by WotC. According to MTG Fandom, what we know of the cards, "is based on Wizards of the Coast employees sharing their cards and what they were awarded for on various social media channels. The cards are not publicly released by Wizards of the Coast itself." So the cards were not publicly distributed by WotC, they are personal gifts as part of a compensation package.

On bullet #2, you say that they must function within the rules of MTG. On Mark Rosewater's Blogatog, he states that they don't go through the normal MTG card design process, and aren't designed or balanced to function within the rules of MTG. Therefore, they don't function within the traditional rules of MTG, and are not cards meant for play (except for the people whose name is printed on them, more on this later).

Additionally, on bullet #3 you state that their physical dimensions must not differ from Magic cards. But, "these cards don't have the regular Magic card back, they aren't legal in any format" (MTG Fandom). There are no legal printing of these cards, like tournament-winning deck cards or oversized cards.

On buullet #4, you state they must include trademarked symbols. They do, and they also include the name of the individual to whom they were paid. True, that small handful of people can use this card in legal play, but it must be within the Commander format. Even then, the Commander Rules Committee is independent of WotC, and any decisions they make on the legality of a card in Commander does not reflect the feeling of WotC on whether or not the card is considered a card, or whether it has passed through any legitimate design process or screening. They are functionally 'Create a Card' challenges done by WotC employees as a form of compensation for others - that doesn't make them MTG cards.

Therefore, according to your own arguments, Heroes of the Realm cards are not cards.

Have a great day.

In my opinion, it’s like if WOTC was looking at the custom cards forum, liked one of the cards a lot, then printed a copy of it. One of their employees did something great and deserves a raise. WOTC says “oh sorry, you did a great job but we don’t have the money to give you a raise because we were printing too many universes beyond sets, so we’l give you this custom card.”

Please be sure to keep the conversation civil. Outright flaming other users does not have a place on TappedOut.

Are the World Championship printings on TappedOut? If they are, then I personally see no reason to exclude the HotR cards.

The Heroes of the Realms cards are legal in EDH, point towards including them. They don't have a standard card back, point towards excluding them. If the WC cards are on TO, then this point doesn't matter, and they should be included.

Biggest reason to include them imo is that they are on Scryfall.
