Podcast/Youtube vids?
TappedOut forum

So, I've been toying with the idea of expanding Tappedout into some other media. One idea I had would be to do a Magic Online draft and stream it live so that you can follow along and chat about my doubtless terrible drafting. Or maybe I'll just record standard matches I play and cast them with commentary, in order to help people understand the evolving metagame. Or maybe some kind of Magic podcast would be interesting?
Do any of these ideas sound good? Any interest in any of 'em or something like them?

This sounds good and you'd save lots of time transcribing the matches after the DDDs. You would likely attract new users with youtube videos too. The only setback I see would be the ability to read all the cards through a camera lens.

I say go for it. Maybe we could have a T.O youtube account that anyone could submit podcasts and such to?
August 4, 2010 12:45 p.m.
Great idea! It is a little frustrating though when you can't see what's being played, so perhaps integrate it with some sort of on screen info, like an image of the card pops up, or some sort of HUD to help watchers follow.

I'm down with the mentioned ideas, aside from the podcast.
August 4, 2010 6:26 p.m.
Recording matches and then going back with commentary, play decisions, etc. would be interesting; I'd prolly watch that.

hmm, yeah, like all of these ideas (youtube seems the best one to me). Also a possibility of recording matches and then converting them into the T/O playtester for both to be viewed simultaneously: The vid for the real action and speech and the fake version for clarity. voice over could also be an idea.

Omggggg if you need a cute flagship poster girl signnnn me up! I love podcasts~ We could get together on vent or something and record it!
August 6, 2010 1:23 a.m.
Okay KC~ Let's do a podcast :3 I have almost everything set up on my computer to record it. Now we just need a spot for everyone to talk. How does Skype or Ventrillo work? We just need an open mic area for about 5 people to talk lol. I currently don't have a vent server but I know Skype is free. I'm just not sure how many people can be in one conversation.
The first episode should be simple. Everyone involved could pick up a booster pack, open it and we can talk about what we got and what is/isn't useful in draft and what could be used in constructed etc. We can then throw it up on a site and let the community download and listen :D. Yaaay.

That sounds pretty dang cool, I would so be up for doing that. =D
August 9, 2010 6:45 p.m.
lol, podcast would be sweet... you could focus the attention around decks on this site... Ya know, ones that may be picked up for possible tourney/FNM play, or even combo's from decks that could give focus for others here, and those who might listen in on the podcast might even be interested in this site and what it has to offer?
Just a thought, because Monday Night Magic podcast does a crack-a-pack... and not much else.... (I find it frustratingly fool of jank)
So yeah, I'd be all for that kind of stuff! :)
August 9, 2010 6:55 p.m.
Okay then let's get Skype and do a Podcast :D ~~ When are you free KC???
We can do a conference call. I think it'll be funny. Someone nominate a deck for us to look @ first and discuss :P.
We should do an intro... introduce the site, talk about the features and then introduce ourselves... then we can look at a pack and then a deck on the site :D. We can also talk about comments already made on a particular deck and expand.
August 9, 2010 9:33 p.m.
You opening this up to folk in general here to guest slot, or just in general to have a chat with? 'Cause the Ireland Nat's are this weekend, and it would be fun to do a chat-up about how that went down (if anyone is interested say aye! :) )

Well, theres always the idea that I think KrazyCaley (or someone else, correct me if I'm wrong) had where he picked a random deck from the Newb section and wrote an article about how to make it better. In contrast to that, you could take a look at the winning deck lists at recent events and pick those apart to find out why they are so good and maybe how to combat those decks.

How incredibly awesome. This site rocks.
I, however, am a dinosaur before my time and have no idea how a podcast works. Is it live? Recorded? Beamed directly into my brain? I just don't want to miss it with my full-time job and weird schedule.
August 9, 2010 10:19 p.m.
Podcasts are always archived for people to listen to later, so don't worry about missing it due to scheduling woes!
August 9, 2010 10:24 p.m.
Basically a Podcast is your own radio show. You record it and then host it on a website. From there you can submit an rss feed to the iTunes Store and Apple will link to your site so others can download it as well.
They run about 10 minutes to 30 minutes.
I was thinking the best way for us to do it is over internet telephone (Skype). It's free to download. We'll all take turns speaking and I'll record it and edit it (or if anyone else wants to - go fer it! :D). Then we upload it for people to download.
We can set up turns to speak instead of all speaking at once. With skype I think we can have people sit in the call with us as text only as well and then if we want we can throw them up to voice to put in their $0.02 too.
This way we're not as limited~ I'm not 100% on the text part but I know we can set up a huge voice call.
August 9, 2010 10:25 p.m.
Podcast's are audio recordings of conversations and shows, that provide potential information and news about stuff you might be interested in.
In Magic theres Deck Construct, Limited Resources, Monday Night Magic, mtgcast, and a host of other podcast's that go out on a regular schedule. Some provide really solid info about whats happening in Magic, others just provide some banter.
But Podcasts are not just restricted to Magic, theres podcasts about... well, just about everything. Just google it up and see for yourself.
Podcasts are designed for MP3 players, so they can be stored for listening on the go.
Yup, KrazyCaley did mention something along those lines, but it's just a suggestion to suppliment the podcast, espicially if it's picked up by someone who has yet to come to this site, hence why I suggested it for podcasting. That way, it helps to suppliment folk into the site, and thus generate some extra traffic, which in turn generates extra deck ideas. :)

K guuuuuys, thanks for the adds. Lets get together soooooon!!! Post when you're free! I wanna make sure it happens :)~~
August 9, 2010 10:54 p.m.
Ok, got ya added up on Skype (if ya don't mind - the pic is rather dark because over here it is nearly 4am). But your thinking of this podbean malarky to play with for hosting the podcast?
Gotta say, never heard of it till now...
Checkin' it out.

(Added you on Skype)
If we're cool enough, maybe we could get on MTGCast.com! That would be pretty awesome.
I'm free usually at night (7ish EST) working all day even though I'm on T/O for a lot of that time anyways. =P
August 9, 2010 11:02 p.m.
If your up for adding me too I'm actually using the same name lol :) 'Cardcoin'
August 9, 2010 11:04 p.m.
I'm busy ATM so I don't have time to read all of the above except the first few posts, buuuuuuuut I think it would be really awesome to expand T/O, if you want my help in any way, just let me know!

Everything about this sounds great except the strictly podcast part. Even if you originally post a podcast you should definitely also put it up on youtube. It will bring people back to this site and people won't have to download it to view it.
August 10, 2010 1:10 a.m.
@honeymomo: last time I used skype (a while ago, admittedly) it could support chat for 30+ people, and voice for at least a dozen. that shouldn't be a problem at all.
August 10, 2010 2:51 p.m.
Thanks for the info sporkife!~
And would youtube sound only files be popular? I can't of a way for us to record it on an international basis with video... Maybe we can put up the sound clips a week after the podcast release for youtube :3??
August 10, 2010 4:36 p.m.
I do also want to see a podcast done by KC tho >o<~ KC are you going to do one and colab with minor threat?? I think it would complement the articles. I like all the comments you make and if there are tons of people in that it might not get off the groundddd. Feedback? Should we do two?? :3
August 10, 2010 10:10 p.m.
To be honest I think sound only youtubes have potential, I think they would just have a very rough start, maybe not though. It all depends really, like a really long sound only youtube would get boring and not attract much attention, but short ones like maybe 5 mins max per would be short enough to still attract interest.

Two might be a good idea at this point. How about this- I'll just start by making my gameplay vids w/ commentary, and once I make sure my tech is running for that and we're all stable, I'll post another thing where we can figure out what our next project will be?

August 13, 2010 5:03 p.m.
Also for something stable to start out with you could do a routine q/a vids/podcasts with questions from the community.

Works for me, are there any other people that would be up for this?
August 15, 2010 8:16 p.m.
I'd love to but I'd need more information about what EXACTLY it is that I'd be doing to help.
August 15, 2010 11:18 p.m.
I'm thinking we all go on Skype... I'll record it. We can talk a bit about the site, introduce ourselves, what we like about t/o... grab a deck from the newbie list and talk about it and then discuss the upcoming set or something. Wrap up in like 10-15 and then I'll uplooooaddd it. If it goes well we can plan something for once a week and get various members in on it :3
I guess the basics we have to stick to are the same as the site rules... so keep things polite hahaha.
August 16, 2010 12:54 a.m.
Okay, but how would it be organized? How do we determine who talks at what time when there's X amount of people? Also, would we be doing a mass video chat?
August 16, 2010 1:02 a.m.
No, just voice for a podcast... I dunno, when I do raids in WoW we can manage 25 people talking without any problems. Everyone will just have to be curious. :)
August 16, 2010 1:32 a.m.
Lol alrighty, but we'll need eachother's skypes then.
On a side note, you play WoW? I'm more of a Guild Wars guy :P
August 16, 2010 2:45 a.m.
ah so my power us out and I only have my iPod! I'll have to do it another night .... Its been out since 5am and its like 4 now -_-

Good thing, I might have had something come up. Next time it is!
MDragoon423 says... #2
Heck yea! I love watching MTGO draft videos like LSV's or Conley Woods, or even the guys at Limited Resources. I think having TappedOut start to do it as well would be awesome. I am interested in all of the things you listed and would love to see them happen. I would also like to offer up my help if you ever need an extra hand with something.
Expanding T/O FTW!
