I'm personally a fan of paying , although making it might be a better option. Paying 4 mana for a 3/3 isn't exciting, and same with 4 mana for a 2/2 flyer. Also this way they can be more efficient, similar to the original Scute Mob.
All in all, looks like a fun card to play.

I really like this card, but I think that it'd be better off if the first ability didn't also give a +1/+1 counter. I think it'd be cooler and flow better if it was something like "Adaptive Scute gains hexproof and flying until end of turn." or "Adaptive Scute gets +2/+2 and gains flying until end of turn." With both abilities being +1/+1 counters it limits the gameplay that the card has. Personally, I'd lean towards a temporary buff + flying.

Hmm....valid feedback. Lemme make some adjustments and see if I can find a good balance real quick. My original thought was to purposefully not have the flying go away, but that might just not be necessary. Also, it's a bit of a flavor fail (why would they ever stop flying if they had the choice?)

As a rare you could get away with the ability costing 1. That would make the card powerful but not obscene. On Turn 3 with a land and payment you'd get a 2/2 flier for a 3 mana investment. That's fair enough. at the moment it's 4 mana for a 2/2 flier which is the territory of commons.

How about this?
Positive changes:
Higher base p/t
Ability does not have a mana cost.
The creature can gain Trample to help push the damage through.
Negative changes:
Less +1/+1 counters can be placed on the creature at any given time
The additional abilities are temporary as opposed to permanent.
With the new version, if still seems functionally playable in a contructed standard deck, doesn't seem broken on a power level, seems a bit more in flavor, has less of a "feel-bad" tendency when killed, can still BE killed, and with no cost other than landfall it can get pretty powerful in things like EDH or Casual decks.

Very fun :) Not really sure it's so blue though...

Flying and trample is a little bit redundant. Not completely but both are forms of pushing damage through. I think what JWiley129 said about flying and temp buff is a good idea.
All in all the card is solid and I would definitely try it out if nothing else for the fun of it

FAMOUSWATERMELON: Well, flying is primary in blue. Additionally, part of blue's mindset is that you can become whatever you want to be. Things like adaptation and research are very blue in nature. Furthermore, if we were to look at the Simic guild, this sort of ideology runs rampant in UG.

I guess. I think what really put me off was the art, cause there's no sign of blue there XD

Oh, that's just the original Scute Mob art. I tried for a long time to find something better that didn't look cheesy or stupid and I simply couldn't find something I was happy with lol.

First card I've ever made! It came to me while I was half-asleep this morning haha. The flavor is supposed to be that these are the same scute bugs from Zendikar, but in the time since we last were there, they have become more adaptive to the ever-volatile environment of Zendikar. So, new terrain appears and they change to overcome it.
I was thinking of making the cost of the ability 3, but that seemed too high. I also thought of making it [U][G] in cost, but that just seemed overly complicated. It seems balanced to me as is, since you're ultimately paying 4CMC for a 2/2 flier or a 3/3, or 6CMC for a 4/4 flier. The benefit is the adaptability to pay in installments and tailor your choice to your game, as with Warden of the First Tree or something like Fleecemane Lion.
It might also be fine to make the cost [1] since you would have to do it only when landfall triggers, but I'm not entirely sure.
Thoughts?
