Reviving dead threads

TappedOut forum

There has been a slew of 'necroed' threads as of late, that is forum posts that are well over a month old that folks comment on out of the blue. It's a minor annoyance for those that are subscribed to these old threads. I mean, yes we can unsubscribe, but what I'm asking for all you wielders of Recurring Nightmare to do is to cease this needless Resurrection of old threads and start a new, relevant discussion.

I'm seriously playing Leyline of the Void from my hand and Grafdigger's Cage turn one, yo.

It's annoying but it doesn't matter too much.

Granted, sir.

I got a good one from two years ago necro'd today. Just me and Epoch on the thread though, so at least the annoyance was small.

I think it's just a new way for people to troll, we need to make a smaller deal of it so it goes away.

The one in the Site Updates Forum was hilarious. I highly recommend reading it (I know you were already there aeonstoremyliver)

Part of the problem is that they appear on Google searches, so then someone clicks it, registers, and then replies, all without knowing THAT THEY HAVE STEPPED ON MY FEELS

The best way to clear this up I think is to do an automatic lock of any thread that becomes a month old. Only admins and the creator of the thread can unlock it.

I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. If someone google something and finds an old thread on the topic but wants to ask a further question I think it's better to necrobump than to start another.

I read this thread as "Receiving death threats." I have nothing of substance to contribute to either that or the actual topic at hand, however.

October 9, 2014 7:56 p.m.

Contributions are only good for the front page.

Contributions are only good when they hit fluffybunnypants' wall.

You guys are awesome and gave me a good laugh. Unforgivn_II that thread was a lead in to this one lol.

Caligula that was great!

TheDevicer funny, I was thinking of doing that for the irony lol.

Mayhap I'm easily annoyed today and my tolerance for bull is at an all time low. Pardon the public rant.

No you have a good point.

Personally, if the choice is between necroing old threads, or multiple threads on the same topic, I'd take the former just about every time.

The issue with necro'd threads is that Magic gets new sets every couple of months. People will write comments about Standard from two years ago, or leave comments on economics from cards that have fluctuated in price.

Threads should be locked after three months IMO, because that's around the time a new set comes out.

I also wish you could unsubscribe multiple threads when viewing subscriptions. It's really annoying to uncheck each thread one at a time and refresh the page. Maybe this is something yeaGO could implement next time the site gets updated.

I sort of feel bad for doing this, but once epochalyptik had to shut down a thread I created because it encouraged necrobumping. I now realize the terribleness of necrobumping. However, I realize that it appears on a google search and you just want to click it. I think a great solution would be to make it so that there can only be X necrobumps in a certain amount of time, or any member can only do a few necrobumps in a certain amount of time, or even a member can only do a few necrobumps for their entire membership.

October 12, 2014 7:41 a.m.

That would be difficult to implement.

However, auto locking threads wouldn't.

October 12, 2014 2:22 p.m.

Or, alternatively, give me the power to lock threads, and only that power.

I swear I'm good with not being a tyrannical dictator.

Necro bumping this thread to the front page.

October 22, 2014 7:53 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #24

Not really necroing a thread if it isn't 3 weeks+ older.

October 22, 2014 8:50 p.m.

Lol I deserve this...

October 22, 2014 10:24 p.m.

Different views. I consider if it hasn't been commented on in two weeks, that's necroing.

But I'm super strict about that.

October 22, 2014 11:49 p.m.

2012 necrobumping FTW

I haven't seen a necro that is a year old. Not yet anyways.

I necrod a thread that was a about 18 months old the other day, but I had a good reason to. I still think that in certain circumstances necro'ing is far, far better than posting another thread. The number of times I've seen someone post about whether Mutavault will drop or rise is ridiculous. If people bothered to use the search bar then you could just refer to one thread instead of asking the same bloody question over and over and over again. And if the thread does get old and a new mutavault is printed? Well you can still post in the old thread but start a new topic or post a different question, because most people skip to the last page anyway - let's be honest here.

genius

November 11, 2014 5:12 p.m.

Not quite a necro in my books, if you had given it thirteen more days however.....

November 11, 2014 5:14 p.m.

Named_Tawyny says... #34

It felt like it'd been longer than that. Necroed too young...

November 11, 2014 5:19 p.m.

Why is necroing a two year old thread considered an achievement? I would assume that whoever posted the thread already figured out what commander is the most fun?

November 11, 2014 5:40 p.m.

Maybe not... I say post on it, ya know, just in case.
