I got a snarky comment from Behgz on my deck, and opened up his profile before removing it because I don't need that kinda shit on my profile. I was then greeted with the following message.
"This user is no longer interested in interacting with you. Any efforts you make to communicate with this user through this site can lead to a permanent ban. If enough users block you, you will be removed from this site"
Are we for real on this? I'm receiving a warning because some kid commented on my deck and decided to block me?

What gave you that impression Behgz? Not to be a dunce, but even SharuumNyan somewhat implies her gender.
Okay, the white privileged guy is going to shut up now.

Aaaaaand cue sexist remarks.Trying to change someone's opinion via the internet is like trying to scoop water from a barrel with a sieve.

Her responses just seemed to be coming from that of a male's perspective, is that reverse-sexist? Am I a monster?

Well I very much apologise about point 2 and hope that I didn't overly offend. I would still mention that knowing 2 people with the disorder is not a large amount. It's still not enough (in my mind) to assume that EVERY individual with the disorder is ok with that.
This is something that I do have to be careful with because I've spent a lot of time with people with Asperger's, depression, Alzheimer's, shizophrenia, and many other disorders.
I know for fact that the majority of schizophrenics hate the term schizo. I didn't know about the term aspie until today.
I think there's a difference because both black and African American are accepted, full descriptive terms given to a group of people. Aspie is a casual term, not a full term. Also referring to someone directly by their disorder can be hurtful.
If your experiences with the term are positive, I would still say that upon meeting anyone else with the disorder - just ask them if they mind the term or not. It's better to be safe than to accidentally come across as rude (like I did earlier when I assumed you were male - still sorry).

Ok, here's a little joke that explains how I feel on the matter.
A guy is walking in a department store behind two guys that obviously have Downs.
They both see an endcap display for Downy fabric softener.
The two guys point to each other and start laughing.
The man following the two guys realizes the joke and starts laughing and both of the guys turn around with a disgruntled look on their faces.
He starts to apologize and the two stop him mid stutter with this "Heh, pretty funny isn't it?"
Most people spend too much time concerned with how other people feel. That's not to say never stand up for others, but there is something to be said for gaining thick skin.

I thought the fact that Sharuum is a female characte would imply I'm female. Don't see a lot of dudes calling themselves Liliana. lol
February 27, 2014 10:28 p.m.
Heh, good point on the name.
Probably just assumed because I'd say about 99% of the people on this site are male.

We'll get along fine as long as you never say that EDH is for scrubs.

ChiefBell How about French EDH is for scrubs, real EDH players use Sol Ring . :P
SharuumNyan glad to see female players, you are too rare a breed.

I do see the connection with asperger's syndrome and a game like MTG. As players of the game of magic the gathering, we are more likely to end up interacting with people with asperger's syndrome than say people who don't play trading card games or chat on the internet about said card games. That's a generalization I think we can all agree with, without using a potentially controversial term. Why you brought it up at all, I can't help but assume you were trying to insinuate that I, or someone else involved in this thread's discussion must be afflicted by asperger's syndrome, to some degree. Which is insanely offensive..
February 27, 2014 10:35 p.m.
Maybe we should just say that we should all just be nice to each other and close the thread.
Keep trolling to a maximum of once a week.
February 27, 2014 10:36 p.m.
As someone who actually has Asperger's, I'm going to weigh in here. First off, I personally don't find the term "aspie" offensive. I'm not 100% on the side of liking it (it's a little cute for my taste), but I would consider it better than "Person with Asperger's Syndrome" because it acknowledges one fact that I find very important: Asperger's Syndrome describes an inherent part of me, a part that I would not trade for the world. I suffer from depression. I do not suffer from Asperger's Syndrome.
That said, I can see why it might be offensive to others. I disagree with ChiefBell that that means we simply shouldn't use the term. We should discuss why the term is offensive to some, and not to others, and come to a consensus. Shutting away words because a few people are offended is not the answer (for the moment, ignoring things like trigger words).
Additionally, SharuumNyan, I don't love being only two steps up on the continuum from Psychopaths. I know that I can easily come off wrong, often because I will say things without thinking about or even realizing how others perceive them. But I do not do this out of malice. If you direct me to why what I said was the wrong thing to say, I will endeavor to correct myself. So don't place me so close to the Psychopaths, please.
February 27, 2014 10:36 p.m.
I did finish by saying along the lines of 'you should probably ASK people if they mind', which doesn't mean 'we should NEVER say this ever'.
February 27, 2014 10:40 p.m.
An interesting point is that as of 2013, Asperger's Disorder isn't a medical label for a condition anymore. It's just Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
February 27, 2014 10:42 p.m.
ASD sounds so much better, I can see why they made the change.
February 27, 2014 10:44 p.m.
Personally, I actually dislike having the word "disorder" in the diagnosis. Syndrome at least is semi-benign. Disorder implies that it is something that should be corrected or cured, which is not what I consider myself.
It's also worth noting that the DSM V redefinition is controversial, and that's all I will say about that.

raithe000 - I didn't mean to offend when I listed aspergers-type-personalities on that list. One of my buddies has me read some of the things he writes online when people accuse him of being a jerk, to see whether he was out of line or not, because he really can't tell. I was trying to express that when people do come across as offensive online, most of the time they can't help it and people should be more understanding and realize that some people do have difficulties interacting. It was more of a "these are some reasons why people may come across as jerks...not because they intend to be jerks"
The guy I have problems with on here reminds me so much of my friend, which is why I brought up aspergers. It was a way to possibly explain the things he says on here, and why It shouldn't be taken personally just in case he can't help it.
February 27, 2014 10:55 p.m.
SharuumNyan No problem, I wasn't super offended, just a little bit from a not highly rational part of my brain. I just wanted to let you know that it did jump out at me.

I've been pretty ambivalent about this thread almost the entire day, just snacking on popcorn and watching the fireworks go off. Then Ohthenoises said this: "French EDH is for scrubs".

I wish we could do a TappedOut meet and go out for drinks. That would be nice.
