Slow?

This may be a very simple question to answer, but why does the outer circle on the mana chart thing have whatever color and then whatever color (slow) by it?

Actually I've wondered that as well for a while now.

Isn't it for mana sources that come into play tapped?

That makes a lot of sense! And now that I look at that, that probably is right. Thanks dude!

I always saw it when I had fewer mana sources (lands) than the deck required... and as i balanced it out, they started going away....... but i really have no idea why they are there

Sorry to resurrect a long-dead thread, but it's been bugging me for a long time and something isn't adding up with the above explanation, or at least seems to be inconsistently implemented. Consider the following deck (not mine) as demonstration:

Roon Blink

If you examine the mana chart, you'll notice Hinterland Harbor is calculated as being slow, while Sunpetal Grove is not. Why the distinction? To me, nothing appears mechanically different between the two. Is GU somehow inherently slower than GW?

I believe that the slow/quick distinction is likely useful when implemented fully and accurately, but perhaps the current speed identity of various lands needs review?

Is this the only land inconsistency? Has anyone spotted others?

That's strange. I really have no clue why that would be like that...
