While messing around with Magic Set Editor as I was creating a Homestar Runner block for fun, (Massive project, 1024 cards, 4 sets each of 256 cards. Current progress, 4 days at card 231.) I noticed that their site had very useful smilies.

I'm looking at the MtG symbols as smilies. I think this would be a WONDERFUL addition to this site. We have a pretty active Custom Card forum, and the regs there would be delighted to have this.

It shouldn't be too difficult. Just use the same code we do for decks, user, and cards. I think something like this would work. [ [smile:R] ] for the red mana symbol. Obviously without the spaces inbetween the square brackets. And then just put the list of all the smilies in the formatting tips page that is underneath the comment box.

Votes for Yays?

10/10. Would up vote. That'd be sick, also for rumors and speculations... Or in descriptions for explanation of combos, perhaps describing the number of mana symbols instead of "RRRRRUU" or whatever people do. Like I said, 10/10. Plz add.

That would be like a coloured colourless symbol, which can be shopped. Basically instead of the grey colour in the colourless number mana symbols, that colour would be blue, or red, or black etc etc.

Doesn't matter to me, I think it's a fantastic idea. Epochalyptik and yeaGO need to see this.

You could just use ((r)) ((u)) ((b)) ((g)) ((w)) ((c)). C for colourless. Wizards will never print cards called that and I don't think they should be decks either.

Interesting! MSE forums doesn't have a Z listed. Huh.

They do however have the loyalty and rarity symbols. If need be I can make a T/O rarity symbol by scratch for us to use.

The MSE program has Z's and 3 and 5 colour hybrid mana symbols and snow halves and all the +/-/= loyalty symbols. May fetch those at some point in the near future. I can make the rarity symbol there as well.

Cool! If my method of creating the abbreviations makes sense, then I'll make a table again with all the images not hotlinked.

I forgot to mention that these are done using the normal brackets, but no identifier, so just as if you were to link a card.

Also, it seems these are order specific, you have to get the symbols in the right order for them to work. There are no slashes, and everything is caps. Currently, the symbol order is highest first then lowest second one writing down hybrid mana symbols. Phyrexian mana starts with a P, and the untap symbol is UT. Once again, these are all in square brackets.
