TappedOut Leaderboard
TappedOut forum

Do you guys think that there should be a tapped out leaderboard based on your tapped out rank? It seems like quite a cool idea but i am not sure whether it would work.
Hjaltrohir says... #3
I think it would be quite a good way for people like Epochalyptik, Ohthenoises etc. to show off how awesome they are ;)

It would really just encourage people to post meaningless things in comments just to get their rank up. The rank system is designed (I believe) to be more a legitimization tool rather than a competition. Meaning that someone who has a higher ranking comes across as trustworthy and knowledgeable when it comes to Q&A, trading, deck help, etc.

I guess kmcree
But it would encourage people to post meaningful and helpful stuff and improve the site by increasing their activity

Took me a good 20 seconds to figure out how to pronounce epenis...
And I'd agree with these guys, It isn't really something worth bragging about.
Ohthemnoises, points don't matter, etc. etc.

I really don't think there would be any difference in the posting behavior on this site if we had a top 100 page. There's no real use for it so it'd be just for fun. It wasn't a bad idea awesomeguy37 at all.
You can find a old list of Top Decklords here: LINK
I personally could care less either way.

I kind of meant for it to be a fun thing not like a challenge or anything, i just thought it would be cool.
June 5, 2014 3:06 p.m.
ThatBlueMage sort of wrote it like that to obscure for the family friendliness.

I figured, you're not the type to spout profanities on a forum like this anyway.
Though that's pretty much the only term to describe the overinflated online egos that people can acquire, so it's totally understandable.
June 5, 2014 3:11 p.m.
The problem here is you're asking everyone to interpret your intention as you want it in a competitive environment. But that's not the problem, the problems that have been mentioned have happened elsewhere because people's egos and pushing the limits of the boundaries. It hasn't changed with strict rules in place and won't with an implied politeness in saying 'keep doing what you're doing, but here is our all-star board'.... It's just a formula for madness. Human nature sucks...

Can we all stop caring about rank? Really? I mean it never used to matter this much.
Make good decks and comment on stuff you like. It's not that hard guys.
June 5, 2014 3:26 p.m.
ChiefWannaHacka So do I!!!!! D: and my bank account cries more :P
June 5, 2014 3:28 p.m.
I think it's egoboosting and unecessary. People would be incentivised to post a lot more shite.

Wait wait wait....
Epenis is a profanity?
And to go along with Ohthenoises, if you actually care about your rank, just do what he suggested. That's all I did, and bam: top 100.

Can we stop acting like people who care about rank are doing something wrong?
Different strokes for different folks ya know? Some people are naturally competitive or are just drawn to numbers/rankings. Others are just curious with time to kill and might want to check out the cast of characters that make up the backbone of the community.
Nixing the idea because you don't feel that users in the top 100 can keep their egos in check is asinine. Seriously? What "real" harm can an user with an over-sized ego? They tell everyone they're right and the best deck builder because "rank 21 biotches!" and then proceed to get shrugged off and ignored for being a tool by the rest of the community? Sounds about right.
June 5, 2014 4:06 p.m.
There's nothing wrong about wanting high rank! I want to have a high rank and I post a lot because a) I like commenting and b) I like having the site presence. I just don't think people should be encouraged to post as much as possible.

Rasta_Viking29 I've had a user or two try and pull rank. It's annoying. All I'm saying is that the less you care about points the better your comments get.
When people try and farm points they usually spam inconsequential stuff throughout the forums. (Trust me, I've seen it for the last 2 years on tappedout.)

The ranking system for me, personally, was a large part of what made me desire to be a part of this community.
When I first came on, I saw people with upgraded accounts and it made me want to upgrade as well. And I did. When I saw that some people had rankings, it made me want to have a ranking as well. And I had one. When I saw that people in the top 100 got to have a unique title, I wanted that as well. And I got there. I am a competitive person and without this sort of incentive I dare say I would never have become a part of this community, and while the numbers mean nothing, I feel proud of myself for getting there. I don't think that's wrong or makes me a "bad" person (Not that you're saying that).
Along with anything like this you will have the assholes and annoying people who take it too far. But let's not let a rotten apple spoil the bunch and whatnot, right? Having the ranking system is cool! Newer people to the site get a thing or two to strive towards and they get to become familiar with those that are more active and more influential in the community. And that's awesome!
As for how the ranking is achieved...well...Let's just say I've been very inactive for a couple weeks now (been super super busy irl) and I've gone up like 15 rankings for seemingly no reason. Those who are posting just to get rankings should probably just give it up :P

I think this point has been beat to death. There seems to be two solid camps.
Some people don't feel like it's important or necessary to be ranked, and if you really enjoy coming here you will continue to do that, and you'll contribute just because you want to. They feel that having the leaderboard posted will make it more salient for the trolls who just want to have the best rank. They feel this would result in a less enjoyable environment for everyone as they would be required to police the site more.
The other side sees posting a leaderboard as a valuable tool for motivating users. They see the fact that we all have a rank posted on our profiles, and believe compiling these in a visible list would be a) easier to view and b) motivating for those people who enjoy watching how their contributions makes them a more integral piece of the community. It feels good for the people in this camp to see how their contributions cause them to climb up the leaderboard and thus, makes them "more important" to the community at large.
There will always be people who think that they're more important and their opinion is more valuable. There will also always be trolls...it's hard to say what the end result would be either way. It's simply access to more information...
June 5, 2014 5:21 p.m.
I think instead of pulling rank, I'm just going to start declaring myself a Berkeley grad, since that seems to be a thing now.
In all serious, I think a ranking system could be fun and entertaining, and I think it could draw people to be more active on the site. I think it could definitely be expanded, and maybe some more benefits for top users besides just the whole custom rank thing. But I'm also worried that people will just start to abuse the system and spam decks and forums for the sake of getting points.
Maybe there's a happy medium?
June 5, 2014 5:43 p.m.
I'm just messing. But do read uncyclpedia because it's great.
We do have a ranking system I just think it's a bit vulgar to be publicised.
June 5, 2014 6:35 p.m.
Haha touche. Although we do have 72 Nobel laureates to your 58. Also in all fairness, you guys have been at it for a little while longer.

Or the "one of my last army units I was in was in the second Transformers movie" card.
Or the "I have a rare Metallica EP signed by the band" card. That one has actually gotten me places.
My friends usually retort with the "but once you got so drunk, you left the bar with three huge ladies" card. To hell with it... The glass is half full on that one... I pulled a hat trick after somewhere close to 14 heavy German beers in my system. I woke up the next day in Prague.

GoldGhost012, man. I am only 28, but I wake up in the morning and feel like a really really old dude. I do not advocate any of that behavior. It takes a special breed to handle it. But it worked for me for quite some time.
Now a days I get strange kicks from charging at my opponents with 2x 6/7 Tarmogoyf
s.
The funny part is that my life didn't slow down too much when I got married and had children. The legality of my shenanigans changed a bit, but that's it. Now I just play magic. It keeps me out of the bars.

Ohthenoises, that's pretty fuckin awesome. I feel jipped. All we got to do was hang out at white sands missile range, get yelled at for ogling the extras and actresses and eat some catered food.
Can you believe that the Army can figure out a way to fuck up being in a movie?
I suppose if the military wanted us to have fun, they would have issued it to us...

As a person ranked in the top 15, I don't see a reason too other than to show off an epenis. I think it's just better to be and do than to flaunt.
