Tappedout Youtube Channel?
TappedOut forum

How it could work is, a user submits their video to an experienced user, who could decide if it is worth posting, and then do final edits and post. I have access to Adobe primer video editing software, (cs6) and am well versed in it, and could edit. Is this possible? yeaGO

That's only true if you have a chance to record a discussion between several knowledgeable players. And even then, a forum post is much more dynamic than a recorded conversation.

But we do have the chance to record a discussion. That's what some of us are trying to do, and some people here have said that they'd watch it.

The operative phrase in my response is "between several knowledgeable players." If you don't have that component, you aren't going to be producing quality work.
Ultimately, I don't see the need for any of the proposed videos to represent the site through a collective YouTube channel. If you want to make some videos and post them independently, that's fine. But I have a hard time believing that there's a need for a site channel.

There probably isn't a real need for a site channel, but it seemed like a cool idea.
And besides, all of us here are geniuses after all, aren't we?

I'm with Epoch on this boat. Anything site worthy can be discussed on site. If you wish to just discuss regular mtg stuff on your videos, that's fine. I just don't see the need to label it as stuff from T/O, since it is no different from stuff from SCG or from more professional youtubers.
I think that just having a tinychat discussion which everyone can participate in and that it is advertised on this site through the social forum as an event with a specific time, would be a good thing to do, and fun. But there is no need to start branding them as belonging to T/O, and you don't even need to make them into videos. You can if you'd like, but I hardly doubt that they would be preferred over more professional material on youtube. Don't forget that you'd have to get all participating member's, even the ones not in the video (ie, ones in chat) permission to make the tinychat discussion into a youtube video.
In other words, branding anything under Tappedout isn't needed, and youtube videos are already accomplished by the more professional youtube crew. Best just to do a tinychat meetup advertised on this site that everyone can participate in.
Then again, this also falls more into "should T/O have a IM chat function?" Since anything that a video about tappedout would accomplish would be better accomplished through the IM chat since it is localized to people who actually care and participate in the site.

There have been times when it's been maddening that we don't have a direct IM component of some sort. Then again, I'm pretty sure that if we did, there are certain users who would loath it due to the amount of attention that they would get on it.

A PM system would likely be more useful. But maybe that's what you meant.

Problem with IM's is that they don't hold a legacy. You can't look back to the post and see what was discussed. You can't have a constant popcorn worthy laugh like Just Chatting. No more stuff would go on Fluffy's wall. (though it does help negate thread reanimations.)
This site is really heavily based on the forums. You remove the forums or replace it with something else or add something that makes it redundant, a large section of this site kinda just falls apart.
PM's I think would be the way to go. It doesn't intrude on it and fills a niche that isn't filled. Know how many times I had to make a message deck for someone else? It would also prevent the need to send out e-mail addresses, which some can be feel very threatened security wise if they were to post it in a public setting.

To be fair, I think a site chat (think draft chat, but everyone could keep a pane open as they browse the site) would be a better alternative to the Just Chatting thread. I don't really like that 10-15 users are effectively powerleveling by posting in what amounts to a group chat on Facebook.
@yeaGO: Chances of implementing a site chat or excluding Blind Eternities posts from user point totals?

That too!
Sorry, it's late, I'm tired, there's snow, I hate snow.
Also, on the original topic. I'm not sure there's someone who's a regular here that actually qualifies as someone to be able to give advice that doesn't already exist on SCG or CFB or wherever. I mean, I've top 8d a PTQ and conceded in the finals of a few GPTs, but I don't consider that as being anywhere near good enough to be able to write general strategy articles on Magic. In general, I doubt this is even the correct atmosphere for such a project.... this is a pretty casual website (not that there's anything wrong with that), basically, what the Source is to Legacy, we are to EDH/Tiny Leaders/Kitchen Table/Casual... except we have a great deal of non-mtg related conversation all over the place. Case in point: I'm subscribed to the Legacy forum and whenever there's a post in it, I'm all: "oh sweet, Legacy" and it just turns out to be venom's almost daily post spouting off about something that makes no sense and should probably be thrown into a different forum instead.

And here I thought you didn't care about points Epochalyptik.
But yeah, that point thing is an issue as getting a title is a method of becoming recognized in the community. I would prefer if posts in BE to be excluded from the point total than to have an IM. Just Chatting is sort of a place for us to talk about shit that normally wouldn't come up or be accepted anywhere else, and an IM like that would just scare people away. Imagine if a 8 year old kid where to come on and see that we are talking about booze. Just Chatting is nice because it is out of the way and in the corner. An IM would be far too upfront.
But yeah, Epochalyptik, I really like the PM idea. It stops the need of having to send out e-mail addresses.

I don't care about points, but I also don't think it's fair to have a reward system based on site activity and also allow 15 users to lock down spots in the top 100 due to activity in BE. Now, those users are active enough that they'd still be in the top 100 anyway, but I don't think BE discussion should really influence point totals.
I don't think we have the infrastructure to support PMs, so we (and by "we" I mean yeaGO) would need to build that feature from the ground up. I like the idea, and I think it's something worth pursuing, but I don't have a good grasp on how difficult it would be to implement.

Also, remove the Just Chatting thread from the notifications stream. It eats it up like ... I don't even know a good analogy. That's how much it eats it up.

You can just unsubscribe from it. There's no need to create a special exception for one thread.

I think the whole rank thing in general is a little off as a lot of people think that people with higher rank are better able to answer their questions regarding decks/rules/etc. In reality it just means that you've posted a ton of shit and you're not necessarily more knowledgable than a user with a lower rank/no title (case in point: I know there are a couple L2s hanging around and at least one L3... all of whom have a very high number as a rank).

I'm no expert programmer but Github has a variety of python based PM systems that yeaGO might be able to implement without much work. I don't know how the site was programmed but they seem relatively simple to add.
Regarding adding a group chat function all we need to do is get an channel from one of the many different hosting sites. It wouldn't be hard to add a pop up to Tappedout and wouldn't add to points or change user ranks.
January 27, 2015 10:58 p.m.
I agree with Epochalyptik on this point. I also agree that a private message function would be a good improvement on the site. However I am not familiar with the coding it would require to maintain this, so I understand if it isn't feasible.

Talking about a topic through Skype is a lot more fluid than on any site and it's easier to get opinions out in a direct response to someone or multiple people.
