Why Does One Of My Decks Have An * Before Modern, While My Other Modern Decks Do Not?

Edit your deck, and uncheck the "Is Prototype" button. It should be at the middle left side of your screen. That will fix your issue.

I believe this could also be because they deck is marked as either "Private" or "Prototype". If you go to edit the deck, just uncheck both and it should go away.

An asterisks means that it is prototype. You can manually change this when editing a deck. Generally things like less than the required number of cards or card legality issues will cause the deck to be forced into prototype mode. Please note that not all cards are dictated as legal when shown on this site. Card legality is hand done by users. If you wish to know about card legality, go look them up under a gatherer search.

Prototype is also a good function as to determine whether or not your deck is "complete" or not. I always mark my decks as prototype the moment I make them, and then uncheck it if I feel that it has reached a point of completion.

The Website has not classified it as Modern-legal. Either the website is not updated for a printing of a card, the website hasn't recalculated whether it is legal or not, or it just isn't legal.
