Time for a Saproling hub?

Is Saproling reaching enough of a mass to be considered for its own hub? (Thinking of the 7 Saproling related commanders + Thelon and the chance they'll emerge in this standard).

Thanks for your consideration and hard work!

i dont really see saprolings being competitive in standard. theres just not enough good cards that produce saproling tokens.

There was one 5-0 on MTGO, so hope sprouts eternal!

Salad_Thunder does anyone really take mtgo seriously though for competitive magic? my guess is that the 5 people that deck beat were just bad.

buckeyetron - I seemed to have missed the memo that this is website is designed exclusively for competitive play. Can you please direct me to where it says that?

I am not sure saporlings are quite at the critical mass they need to be to deserve their own hub, but their value in competitive play should not be the benchmark.

What's the requirement for a creature type hub? To have a decent lord or mechanic focused around them really.

cdkime, I think my mentioning them for standard in the original post was what buckeyetron was responding to, so I didn't read it as saying the site was only for competitive.

buckeyetron I don't take the single MTGO 5-0 as meaning anything more than someone winning a random FNM with it. But it's been a long time since I've had an even vaguely playable Saproling deck in a competitive 1v1 format. (And it doesn't price out at that much at the moment). :-)

I mean, we have hubs for some very non-competitive things (like, Minotaurs), so competitiveness alone should not be the judge of it. Usage should be the deciding factor, though it's hard to get the exact stats without a hub or manually checking all the decks on the site.

I wouldn't mind getting the hub - I've had Saprolings as my main deck for years now - but I could also live without it. It's up to whoever is in charge of these things.

And if all we really need for a tribal hub is lords and cards that interact with the specific creature type, then Saprolings have proven themselves worthy a long time ago. Ever since Time Spiral we've had things that make them, things that sacrifice them for effects, things that buff all of them, etc. And we've had all those things in great number - more than a lot of other tribes, even if the overall power level is lower.

I would put them in as a hub but I don't have the privs for it.

ellie-is I hadn't done a count in a while... 78 cards mention the Saprolings! Another 5 mention the strongly related spore counters. And I'd missed that there is now a new Thallid that does neither.

Femme_Fatale Do you know who the hub-master is?

yeaGO How much of a donation/donation drive would it take to get a Saproling hub up? :-)

And, as always, thank you for all your work on the site!
