umm how are top decks identified? i have a friend here and ive been following his deck for a while now...with 1.6k views and 32 ups it should be on top decks i guess.im just confused how the system here works...any1 care to explain?
his deck is BW morbid experiment
so yeaGO! meaning.....total votes orrrrr just the number of votes within the week?

ok...just a question yeaGO! how much is that usually?..jus wondering and when is next update.
November 30, 2011 1:36 a.m.
next update to what? do you have a suggestion for how it could work better?
November 30, 2011 1:47 a.m.
update till next time toip decks changes...well idk your system is quite nice, but my friend here just suggested that since its "top decks" it should maybe be decks with the most ups that are still active, but i see why u have yours this way because alot of decks dont really get much new imput. ill think of sumtin later and post it on your wall if i think its anygood.

yeaGO!i would suggest top decks to be changed to popular decks, to avoid confusion..a freind of mine in school thinks there like..the best most powerfull decks in the curretn meta, there actually just popularly talked about.
November 30, 2011 1:57 a.m.
well actually that gives me an idea....there could be 2 places....top rated and popular decks....top rated could be the ACTIVE decks (ones that get updated/modified and owners still comment on it for the week) with the highest rating....and popular decks could be what you have now...idk if this is possible but seems good to me atleast...so yeaGO! what ya think?
November 30, 2011 2:04 a.m.
ofcourse they should both have limits of time that they can be on those lists

I'm sorry I don't get the difference between 'top' and 'popular'?

He's suggesting "Popular" as the current system of top decks, and "Top" as being older Popular decks that still have regular activity in terms of comments, votes, and updates from the owner.
November 30, 2011 11:24 a.m.
I mean how are they technically different?
The current system is 'voted most times witin the past two weeks'. That could be any deck and votes are a good guage of 'regular activity', although sure it doesn't include comments but comments will tend to follow votes I imagine?

Personally, if I like a deck but don't have anything meaningful to say, I just +1 and move on instead of leaving a comment saying "Nice! +1" or something like that. Many times, if I have what I think is useful input for improving a deck, I might not +1 it until it gets to a point where I think it's looking significantly better.
Really, he's asking for another category of Top decks with an expanded time horizon that doesn't just take into account votes, but also comments, views, and updates by the deck author.
I'm not necessarily supporting the suggestion, I'm just trying to help vocalize it. The system he suggests is definitely exploitable if someone has nothing better to do than to sit around and spam views and meaningless updates on their decks.

He's distinguishing between Top decks and Good decks I think. A lot of Top decks are simply joke decks and aren't competitive. He's asking for another category of Top Decks that shows well rated competitive decks that are being continually updated. I think.
November 30, 2011 1:11 p.m.
how does the system know between 'joke' and 'competitive'?
I don't mean to be a pain but things must be quite specific if they are to be translated into code =)
I think I'm getting the idea that a 'Most Active' category could be somewhat useful. I would just base it on non-owner comments though as "updates" are game-able and votes is redundant.

What about the current Top Deck? Urabrask The Heartless Infernal? I'm relatively certain it has been the top deck for over 3 weeks now. I could be wrong, but it certainly seems much longer than 2 weeks.

ya see top decks should be good competative or well tuned decks.some of the top decks now are more of fun casual decks..buyt they are popolar..what people are sugesting is pretty much what i mean... thx

The problem is competitive is slightly subjective when approaching an online group. Sure you have the various current meta decks, but what about decks that could 'fall' into those archetypes but are not competitive? And then what about the rogue decks that don't fall into any of the current tier 1 deck archetypes, but are competitive? Should it be done by deck placement at tournaments? But that is easy to fudge.
The current system may have some problems, but its quite hard to improve on it without doing a complete re-haul.

yeaGO!, ive had some chatting with schoomates and we came up with this idea....popular decks could be what you have now, decks that got highest rating over the past 2 weeks, changing every 2 weeks. limit on top for 2 weeks....top decks on the other hand should count overall most comments, views and rating (with views only being like 10%)...also it needs to be updated by owner atleast like once or twice a week (you know...be active). it can stay on top forever maybe?well it is TOP decks. well thats my and my riends idea and we seem to like it atleast =) hope you do too

Sorry didn't see this second page.
I see that as game-able. Overall top could be really ancient, but the owner just comes along every 2 weeks to ping it up to the top. You see?
December 5, 2011 12:57 p.m.
yeaGO! kind of agreed....but i guess thats what TOP is for? maybe it needs to get a new comment every 2 weeks to keep it comin? lol needs to keep on playing tourneys (but then again not all dekcs here go tourneys)..just an idea but worth to be considered

I like the brainstorm. If it was an easy one believe me I'd have already implemented it =)

How about this for a thought?
Can we make an additional listing for those decks which are being popularly discussed over ("maybe") a slightly longer time frame (4 weeks perhaps?) so that people can see those decks and actively be able to contribute more to that deck idea or archtypes? (which can help promote the site as a more serious tool for those who like to deckbuild and actively seeking comments/remarks/help/advice...)
Within the current system that yeaGO! has in place, could there be an option or setting implemented to generate a listing for folk to be able to say "here is my idea, What ya think?"
You could weigh it up by an option + comments submitted by total number of users on the deck over a period of time, rather than just a total number of comments.
Example. Owner comments, I comment, owner comments back, another person comments, owner comments.
Instead of having 5 comments registered (and avoid gaming the system) could it be registered as only 3 (for the purpose of scoring the deck activity?) as only 3 people commented on that deck at that time?
Prototype category in the deckbuilder option just doesn't get enough love, and I think this could be utilised for just this purpose.
Am I off the mark here in this idea, or would this be too crazy to try?

added tweak so top decks will expire after 10 days.
still thinking about this.
