So, I want to get into the whole trading thing, but when I asked my dad about he brought up a really good point.

How can I trust the people I'm trading with to actually honor the trade and send me the cards?

and if they didn't honor the trade I could report them and they'd be kicked of the site, but what's preventing them from the logging on with a different username and e-mail?

That's just it. It's a community and it's all about trust.

You just need to look at people status on the site, See how many trades they've done and look into their past with other users which is all easy to do.

But when it comes down to it you just have to take that leap of faith and hope your a good judge of character.

Personal experience i've done 25+ trades on the site and have only had one "negative" experience and it didn't even involve cards not arriving on both ends (Just one taking it's time)

Alright, well I'm not sure if that will cut it with my parents, but thanks anyway!

One thing you CAN do is request tracking on all trades. That way you can see when the other person ships out?

But that might get a little pricey. But if your doing big trades it wouldn't matter because you'd want tracking on that anyways :P

If you look at a reputable user's binder, it shows a list of successful trades they've completed. Somebody who has already completed a good number of trades is unlikely to suddenly try to rip someone off. You can also ask the users they traded with about the trade, and make sure everything went smoothly. On my binder, for example, it shows I've completed 2 dozen trades, and I also have a list of reputable users that I vouch for.

The honor system also works well to prevent the exact thing you brought up. If someone cheats you on a trade, it will probably become known on this site fairly quickly, meaning no one will want to trade with that person in the future, so they'll have to create a new account if they wanted to. However, I believe Epoch(?) has a guide for trading that specifically says to be wary of trading with accounts that either were created very recently or accounts with no activity. These are red flags suggesting that this person might not be a good candidate to trade with.

That sounds pretty risk free. I'll definitely look into it!

Right on yeaGO!

There are lots of good traders on this site. I've not been scammed, as I've been wary about whom I've traded with. As others have said, looking at the potential traders' history will give you some insight.

If you are a new trader looking to trade with an established trader, you may be asked to send first. This is ok, as it builds trust. I also second tracking. It's only about a dollar more or so.

This thread has turned into the look at all the reputable traders thread.

I had the same thoughts when I started trading (funny enough, the first person I ever traded with was Caligula), you just have to have faith. The tappedout community is great and you rarely find any bad traders. Ive traded with around 15 different people on here and only had two bad trades (one just took forever to update that they recieved it, and the other took a while to send it out). Good luck!

Comment on tracking: I pay less than $2 for combined tracking and postage without the hassle of going to the post office (PayPal shipping). Unless the trade is a dollar or two, I use it for every trade. In all my trading, I've only had one trade go south where my end simply never showed up. The two dollars I pay for shipping on each trade might put me in the negatives, but it also might have saved me quite a bit.

Make sure you build your reputation trading with well-known users on the site. That way, you can be confident that you won't get scammed while building your own history.

Seriously, does nobody read any of Epochalyptik's articles? This trading article should tell you everything that you need / want to know about trading.

Also, it is difficult starting out your first trade. I remember being very anxious about it, but after the first trade was successful, I just kept going at it.

It says it on the article, but the administrator's of tappedout.net are not responsible for what goes on between the users trades

Also, when starting out, keep trades to right around 10 bucks. That way you can get comfortable with the system, and if something does happen you are not out much.

You will be asked to ship first if you have few trades under your belt. Trade binders have lots of info, and you can always message people they have traded with in the past to check up on it.

Also please register your trades using the system. Every time there's a scam it's usually someone lining up many trades in parallel. If you make the contents of your trade public, it's easy to figure out who's racking up a lot of trades all at once so they can ditch out.

It happens less and less frequently. I believe the reputation plus public trade history frustrates scammers and they just end up going elsewhere. But Vigilance is key.
