Upgrading Removing Ads

Hey all,
So now that we're doing more MTG related ads, including local tournaments and specials, it doesn't make much sense to hide these from the people who probably use the site the most--upgraded users. If CoolStuff is having an event in your area, it doesn't make any sense to hide this fact from you guys.
Moving forward, I am going to remove hiding ads as a perk. If there are any of you that feel this would be a huge problem, I can build in the ability for you to optionally hide ads if you are already upgraded. Otherwise, you can just hide the ads.
You can always use programs like ad blockers to remove the ads. But please keep in mind that sites like mine rely almost entirely on ad income to continue running. As for myself, I wouldn't be able to keep things running and dedicate the time that I do to TappedOut if it wasn't for AdSense and my ad partners like CoolStuff. One thing I bring to the table to Advertisers is the IMMENSE loyalty of you guys. But I'm kinda shooting myself in the foot if you guys aren't even going to see any of them.

Agreed. As long as they don't interfere with use (not that they ever did) it doesn't bother me.

Meh. AdBlock works for me. I'd rather not see the ads if possible, but I understand the importance of their presence.

I did't like the ads coming back.... felt like something was wrong... even looked around to make sure i was signed in. This was one of the big pluses for upgrading. Plus most of the adds i see aren't mtg related even a little bit... target, intuit (quick books).... etc.... If you can make it a toggle i would sure appreciate it. And if you want to phase it out for future purchasers then i think that is reasonable.

I'm perfectly fine with seeing ads as an upgraded member, since (as you stated) it's a major form of cash flow for the site. Wouldn't it be sorta neat if you could pay/donate to get your deck "advertised" on one of the ad spaces or something? Like level 2 feature. :P

TheHorse hah, that would be funny. I wonder how many people would do it?

I am just getting a lot of "click here for singles in your area" adds and stuff like that. Do you actually make money if the add loads up on the page or do we have to click them? If we have to click it, you do not make anything from me and a toggle in the profile to disable it would be appreciated. If not, that's cool too but I did like not seeing them myself.
Honestly, I don't click them both because I'm not interested in them 99 times out of 100, and in my experience, clicking on adds are a good way to get viruses or phished... at least on myspace and facebook they are.

I wouldn't mind clicking into a few adds to support the site but as I'm not single things like Mpz5 mentioned aren't going to get a whole lot out of me. Magic sites or things like that (unsurprisingly) will more likely draw a click out of me than most of what seems to go by.
Things like WoW ads, Pokemon ads, and other such gaming oriented things are also potential winners from my standpoint.

Removing ads was the primary reason I upgraded, so this is kind of annoying. In all my internet browsing, I click a maximum of 1-2 ads per month, so to me they're all just wastes of visual space. However, I don't like using AdBlock and similar things because that cheats the content provider out of revenue (if the ads are view-based), so I was glad to see the option to donate to TappedOut to get rid of them. If this is just what you have to do to keep the site running, that's fine, I'll get over it.

Yeah, it just floats in the middle-upper section of my screen. It only blocks every field in search or deck builder. So I haven't been able to use the website very well.

The ads that show up for me are from Verizon and Hulu and other non magic related stuff. The main reason I upgraded was to get rid of the ads as well. On a mobile device and Safari the ads jack up the interface from time to time and the drop downs don't work. I just wanted to put in my 10 cents. I'll probably use the site still but less since I can't gain access to it very well on all of my devices. I do understand the ad income though. Thank you! :)

On another note even if the ads are there I never click on them. Even when they show two ginormous boobies. I've come to associate ads with malware.

Makes sense, my only hope is that the ads stay towards the edges of the screen. :)
