Upvote/Like/Agree System for Comments

TappedOut forum

Ok, so I have an idea to try to help threads/posts. My idea is to have an upvote/like button for comments. This could be very helpful and do multiple things.

First of all, right now, to show you agree with a post, you must right your own post. This causes discussions to get longer and harder to read. With a like system for comments, you could simply like a post to show you agree. This will cut down on forums, and make them cleaner and shorter, while not actually taking anything away.

This system could also be used in various other ways. It could be used for voting on an idea. It can be used on the rules Q/A if people think an answer to the question is correct, to help the asker of the question. This can also be used on comments on the deck builder, if people support a suggestion or an idea.

Let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

Been suggested many times before, and was ultimately frowned upon so people didn't try and spam certain comments just for the upvotes. Basically the same measures people go to get upvotes for their decks and the same salty attitudes and that ilk would end up applying to the comments and end up leading to a not very welcoming environment.

If you think a like system will stop people from commenting, you are sorely mistaken. Besides, there's no real incentive to keep discussions shorter. New ideas come up and old ideas are explained better in longer conversations, and you get greater opportunity for community participation.

Like Femme said, we (should) try to avoid incentivizing meaningless actions because it fosters an environment of greed and emptiness rather than one of collaboration. Comment upvotes might be fine in theory, but they generally don't add enough value in practice.

Ironically, I'd +1 those comments if I could XD

But yeah, been suggested, just probably would get too ugly and probably controversial. Not a great idea.

I guess I don't mind such a system but I don't think I'd order comments by it or include nesting.

Concept = Good

Result = Laziness

It would hinder commenting. Like boneheads on Facebook

Just as long as a downvote system doesn't get implemented as well. The potential for abuse by immature or mad users is practically limitless.

Downvotes are pretty much guaranteed to never be implemented on the site. They don't serve a necessary or constructive purpose.
