Upvoting your own decks- why?

TappedOut forum

I'm curious about something. Why is it an option for you to upvote your own decks? It just seems like it's a way for someone to inflate the popularity of their deck or- in my case- my Internet glitches every once in a while and shifts the page down when I don't ask it to, and when I'm trying to click on the Deck Cycle button, I accidentally click on Upvote. Shouldn't it just in general be disabled for you to upvote your own decks, or at the very least give users an option to de-upvote their decks just in case they do accidentally click on Upvote instead of another button?

Thanks!

I don't really see the issue with upvoting your own decks. You obviously like them, and it's just one insignificant vote. It's not a sin to vote yourself.

Yeah why does it matter at all... It's not some awful thing to upvote your own decks...

I think a better option would be to stop yourself from deleting your deck, besides the "are you sure you want to do this" button. I've had a few mini-heart attack moments when I've nearly deleted my favorite decks when I've browsed here on my phone and it jumped the page right before I pressed on the phone.

It's one vote. This isn't that big of deal.

It can give you a slightly higher chance of getting feedback on your deck, especially if you're nearing the top decks on the homepage.

i agree with famouswatermelon, it gives you a chance, however remote, of getting feedback when you arent one of the few users in the 'inner-circle' of the tappedout community, you have to donate and be super active in the forums, if not then tappedout is just a glorified notebook for keeping your lists for personal use

I think it helps get it noticed. Also I have over 200 decks in various stages of composure, I only upvote the ones of mine I really like or if someone else has upvoted it first, just my personal preference.

Huh. I did not expect to be in the very severe minority on this one. Oh well, things happen. I still think it's not a very good idea, especially considering some users base what decks they look at for deck ideas on whatever is the most popular deck they can find. That one upvote could make the difference, and if the deck in question isn't as highly optimized as another deck that doesn't have that one-vote differential... I understand that my situation is very niche, but it is a definite concern. Also I just don't like seeing my name in the "People who upvoted this deck" section. It just makes me feel like a fraud, even though it can be attributed to nothing more severe than Chrome derping on me.

I was like you once, I didn't even know you could upvote your own decks until I accidentally did so when cycling. The thing is though that giving my decks that +1, moving them from unrated to a number, that seemed to be the tipping point that got others to tack on their own. For months my decks languished unrated, and since then I've gotten tens of votes. Tens! Such a thrilling ride hope it never stops!

It does make sense, in a way. You still have an opinion, a vote, it's just sort of a given that you support your own idea. Really the question is why it doesn't just start your deck off at 1. Though to that there's always concept decklists and things you're fleshing out that you're not really ready to put the stamp of approval on yet, so I can see why the system is the way it is.

I think some of my decks suck. I don't +1 those ones.
