Want to help people and give back to the community

TappedOut forum

I don't really know where to ask this question or who to talk to so I'm going to do it here and hope I land a bite. I have been a member of tapped out for a few years now and the community has been one of the most helpful I have found to date. I would like a chance to help others. I would like to write articles for tapped out mostly inv living deck designs and EDH. At my local game shops I have been called a guru for EDH. Helping new players learn the game and build elaborate decks. I have turned a shop that had never heard of Magic nor EDH and turned it into the epicenter of EDH in my town. This is embarrassing because I don't like to brag yet I feel it is essential to state my accomplishments so that my request be taken seriously and thought over. Thank you for your time.

I've known Emory for years now, probably started playing Magic around the same time. EDH was starting up in our town, but he took it to another level. I consider myself a decent player with always something new to learn, and every time I am sitting at a game with him I see something new, and he is always friendly about it...then beats your face in. It's just his style. Multiple times at our local game shop we show up, get bored, then pull our smart phones/laptops.whatever and try to come up with a ridiculous deck that is either too crazy to be true or something that is a great deck, but good for a new EDH player to get their feet wet without being slaughtered by the vet players. I always have fun playing with Emory, and hope to continue for years to come.

Ok time to tackle this

Firstly. The best way to give back to the community is to simply....give back. Be aggresive in giving the people who ask for help in depth feedback that they need. AND POLITELY.

Secondly: Raise your Rank. Not for the purpose of the rank but for what it means. A higher rank means you have a higher participation rate on the site which is important in people recognizing your name which in turn makes people come to you.

Thirdly: You should probably upgrade your account. Not super important but well...you wont see a single person who is a moderator or Article writer who isnt one. It helps you stand out and be more recognizable.

Fourthly: You need to make contact and build a relationship with the Mods and other article writers. yo get into this the best way is to be a participant in other peoples articles before you can write your own. ChiefBell, Epochalyptik, Femme_Fatale, fluffybunnypants, Spootyone and a couple others are people who you should watch and collaborate with. Youll also note every single one of these people is a top 100 user, which again isn't about the braggin rights but more about why they are the ones who people look up too.

LASTLY

This is the tip of the iceberg. If you want to be like these people you need to make sure you are ready and willing to make the commitment that they do.

No Problem. I myself am in the same boat as you. However i do not feel I have the skill to write articles :p.

YOU CAN START by looking at my Shu Yun EDH deck and giving tips. I have had very little feedback on it other than people thinking Shu Yun can only be a Mono Blue Commander :p

See what I did There

I'm looking for ways to go competitive with Alesha in Commander (any variant) is there any tips you would recommend for doing this? I keep getting stonewalled by faster legacy inspired decks

Sainted says... #9

oh I should have tagged VampireArmy as well since he belongs in that category I feel.

make nice with these people as they are the key to your success (besides yourself ofc)

However if this thread just turns into people asking for deck help I apologize! However that does give me an idea. Make a forum post where you can have people post their decks for you to look at. I PROMISE you it will get flooded. those Posts always do

huehue

I only ask because I am desperate :T my brain hurts from trying. In any case, feel free to hit my wall with anything you may need. I'm not mod or commander aficionado but I play a lot of random fringe stuff and overall enjoy interacting with people here. OHTHENOISES and I bounce random deck ideas back and forth often enough :P

VampireArmy I have an Alesha Tiny leaders deck in my decks on this site. you could give it a looksy. its def not a netdeck and itself could use lots of improvement but it does have some ideas.

Sorry to hit on your parade VampireArmy, but any commander that requires a mana investment for its abilities isn't going to get very far. Especially with reanimation. I would honestly say to focus on stuff with ETB and LTB triggers. Go one with just regular triggers and then go one straight goblins, as goblins seem to fit her quite well.

Keep hearing that. Might check that. Value peeps have carried me pretty far. Lost pretty fuckin bad Vs "Lands". i'd rather not clog this dudes page doe so HMU on mah deck

ETB effects with a sac outlet, multiple attack phases and karmic guide as a key card might be interesting. Better yet, Buried Alive to grab Karmic Guide and two fatties might be kinda nice. Use alesha's ability to grab guide who will bring back one of said fatties. It's not the perfect plan but it seems fun. Great info her evasion would help of course since her ability happens when she attacks.

Emory - write an edh format primer. I'm serious. It'll be a lot of work, even if you involve like 15 people but the pay off is worth it.

I would totally agree with ChiefBell on this one. It would be a massive undertaking, but I know that there are some other people who would be interested in helping out.

Alternatively, another great way is starting deck help threads where people can post their decks and you critique them. It's lots of fun to give people assistance, and it also improves your deckbuilding skills. Plus then some people will return the favour and look at your decks.

If this thread is turning out to be a deck help thread, I'd love to get some feedback on literally any one of my decks. They should all be on my profile, so feel free to take a look if you want!
