What's a deckspert?

Aside from a nice combination of deck and expert what is a deckspert and how did I become one?

It's for users who passively meet a certain qualification.

...I don't quite know if that's a veiled insult or not.

I'm not sure how that could even be construed as insulting.

Its not people in the top 500 because I have been one for a while and I wasn't in the top 500.

This might be the most convoluted question since "What is a Contraption and why do I want one?"

What about - I'm having trouble with the meaning of three words: Lie, Deceive, Mislead. They seem to mean something a bit similar, but not exactly the same. Help me to sort them out from each other.

I'm honestly confused as to why I became a Deckspert as well. It just...happened a few weeks ago, or at least, that's when I noticed it. Is this a yay people like me think or a yay the computer program thinks I have done the arbitrarily good thing?
Also Epochalyptik, your tone can sometimes come across as a bit blunt. Unfortunately that reads sometimes (I've personally felt this) as insulting, or worse, condescending. Especially as you didn't outline what that certain passively met qualification is...are we not allowed to know?

I think the point is that they revamped how the ranking points worked because the admins found that it was being exploited a bit. In order to prevent future exploits, they are attempting to keep the recipe to the secret sauce a little closer to the vest. :)

People keep asking this question, and I keep providing non-answers because I don't want people farming various credentials until they meet a rank requirement.

I'm fairly certain that's been the engine driving the nonsense with a certain person whose name rhymes with FlightAttendentFeta.

Thread number 4 asking this question. I'm going to start keeping count.

I actually think it is a good idea that we keep a lot of the sites non-interactive functions from prying eyes. We used to think points were just something added on, something to be enjoyed. But now that we know how points function, we are all clambering to get the best out of the point system. Which is a contributing factor to the lower quality of community that I've seen within the past few months.

Thanks for the information I'm honored to have been bestowed the title. Love this site a lot.
Sorry about the repeat thread though I looked quick while at work and did not see any like threads

The only reason why people like points is being it gives them self satisfaction. User points do hold a few psychological effects on others, as obviously someone with more points will be considered a more contributing and respected member of our society. As for deck points or upvotes, basically the highest upvoted deck tends to be the one players who are less creative will netdeck for their own purposes. However netdecking from this site is rare, as most people would prefer to use a more credible resource, like mtgtop8, and for good reason. Looking at the top decks on here and you realize it is mostly joke and jank.

The points are completely irrelevant. Sure, you can get a better rank with them, and get the ability to change rank, but that's just cosmetic.
There are quite a lot of people who are well respected in the community who are not in the top 100 because they don't shitpost on the forums, but produce a high quality of decks, and interact through the deck pages.

Which is the conclusion anyone should come to when reading my "what benefits do points give". In reality, they do anything. Any benefits the points could give are undermined by two things: How respected your are as a user and how fancy your username is. The latter can influence the former.

Hmm, I don't know how I'm so close to top 100 (as of this date, I'm 116th). I don't really have any popular decks, and I rarely post on other peoples' decks (usually only ones that I'm more intimately familiar with). Am I really on the forums that much? xD
I really need to get a life. =/
Actually, no. No I don't.

I never really felt like the points mattered. I just noticed I became a deckspert not long ago and I was like, "Oh, look at that. That's cool." That's all I really think about it. It's like "Really Impressive Title" from munchkins.
April 12, 2015 3:41 p.m.
Nothing about any of this bothers me in the slightest. I am completely ok not knowing how to get said title, and it might be because I have it, which still probably wouldn't bother me.
I do my best to offer help to other users when I can, and I enjoy when others like my decks.

My thing about it was after 2 years I noticed a change on my profile. I was just curious as to the why now aspect of it lol. All in all I'm not going to change what I do on the site. I read forums if I have a contribution I say my peace. I make my deck lists and cycle them for advice to make my decks better. That's what drew me to the site not a point system

Well, the system was broken for several years. A sudden change isn't necessarily an indicator that your most recent activity is responsible for your "promotion," so to speak. You may have met the qualification at some point while the system was still nonfunctional.

It's for people who are in the top 500 who don't have a custom tag line, I think.
