Why does the previous thread say forever ago on the main screen?
i think its a temporary gap that occurs between the creation of the two objects that make up a thread and the second record doesn't exist yet, then a user pulls up a page and grabs the whole list and it populates the cache and everyone sees it for a few minutes until it expires and finally shows the correct time.

Because the person that posted it posted it at a server time that you haven't reached yet. Due to time zones or differences, this happens a lot (for me, anyways). It's the same reason that some threads have no replies, but show up as being posted an hour ago :)
