About the worth of Sensei's Divining Top

So I know that the price of a Sensei's Divining Top from Champions of Kamigawa is about 15 dollars (give or take). But can anyone tell me whether or not it's a card in demand?

its one of the most popular 'staple' cards in EDH along with Sol Ring . It can literally go in ANY deck and there are few times where it shouldn't too. Sometimes Sol Ring just isn't going to help in some decks but SdT will slot into any deck and be a helpful card. I run it in many decks myself and I always love seeing it pretty much at any point in the game. I am lacking in knowledge about Modern, Legacy or Vintage though so I can't comment on those formats. A quick look on Starcity Games shows there are none NM in stock and only 2 Ex, this is another good indicator that it is a very popular card. Why do you ask?

I had a trade offer from a guy in my Local game store, who wanted to trade the 3 copies I have lying around.

I mostly play Standard so I have no -real- use for them. The trade is fairly even, maybe a dollar in his favor (not accounting for filler cards which I deem pretty worthless), though I'm reluctant in case the cards he's offering will drop too drastically in value, once M14 is fully revealed.

Sensei's Divining Top is a staple in EDH and it's also played in Legacy as a crucial part of CounterTop (along with Counterbalance ). It's always worth investing in this card because it's stable and very movable.

top is also banned in modern, so the price shouldn't fluctuate. the demand is there for legacy and edh as others have said, but it isn't rotating in those formats so the price should stay consistent. top will still probably gradually rise in value over time, as i don't see wizards reprinting anytime soon, except in limited print special sets (like from the vault: relics).

i'd say if you are trading for standard fodder, it would be reasonable for you to ask the trade be a few bucks in your favor, as most standard stuff will drop in price once it rotates.

unless the standard cards offered have modern, edh and/or legacy use the value will drop once rotation happens without a doubt. The value of Top has been pretty much as it is for over a year at least and will only ever increase really unless it got a reprint but if it did it would probably be a rare so the value would not me decimated by a huge new influx of them. If you are getting something like dual lands, Snapcasters or Liliana of the Veil then go ahead with the trade if you don't need em. if you are getting Thundermaw Hellkite s or something that will drop after rotation (anything that is only used in standard basically) I would either not trade or get more value out of the other trader to stomach your loss and his gain especially with rotation being quite close

Thank you all very much for your answers. I am glad to hear that. I think I'll hold on to the tops for a little while longer, at least until rotation to see what happens to the cards I need.
