I have a Black Lotus from Unlimited I've inherited. It's in decent condition, some slight wear and tear.
Will send pics upon request.
Do not contact me about this card if you do not know it's value and appreciate what it is. Looking for some trade + cash

Yeah, reiterating what fluffybunnypants said, this is a really sketchy deal even if you're serious. Anyone who requests a 1500$ card be "sent first" is out of their mind, and anyone who sends 1500$ first is out of their mind. My advice is to sell it to someone on tcgplayer.com, or sell it on there and have the money electronically transferred to you before sending. That is, of course, if you aren't trying to scam.

I agree on that this deal is sketchy. You made an account two weeks ago and suddenly you have a black lotus for trade. I would advise anyone willing to make this trade to meet in person to make all parties happy. Duckserto we aren't trying to be dicks about this, if you actually have one, being able to make that trade would be great but people will have to be cautious.

I wouldn't consider it without a go between person that both people would trust. You send the money, and the card to that person, then he/she sends the card and money to the recipients. You'd have to have someone willing to do so, and you'd both have to have someone that you trusted completely.
Still, it's insane to make a trade that large on a site like this. Ebay it dude. They have paypal to back them up, and you would have the money first. That or sell to a vender.

2 week account, playing since the summer of 2013. Got a Lotus? Seems legit.

i checked the rest of his binder, there isn't anything else that suggests that he would have a lotus.

Yea, every time I put it on eBay my reserve is never met, but I guess I under the circumstances it makes more sense. How does TCG player do it? I honestly just want to get rid of this thing, it gives me anxiety. lol

I'm more interested in whether you can prove you own it. All the evidence available to us suggests this is a scam.
Also, TCGplayer won't allow you to sell something like that unless you're in the upper echelon of sellers. You'd need to have been established for quite a while before you'd be allowed to list something like that.

I'd totally trade/buy the Lotus off him, and even do it through T/O, he'd just have to accept my choice of an established third-party escrow.
October 19, 2013 1:34 p.m.
Devonin, That's the problem. With a such a new account asking for such a huge trade, you would have to go through a 3ed party. If it's legit, he wouldn't trust any random person to be a go between, and neither would you. It would have to be someone that you both know and trust, and frankly, he hasn't been here long enough to know who to trust.
On top of that, the trusted party would have to be willing to do so (I know I wouldn't) because if something happens in the mail, someone is going to be really pissed off and the trusted person would have to deal with a whole lot of drama or worse. I don't see it happening.

It wouldn't have to be somebody we both know and trust, it would have to be somebody established as above reproach. I'm sure T/O has a couple people (like Epoch and Rada and Caley) who could serve, and I definitely know people on other sites like MOTL who have a long record of providing these services with no problems.
Escrow is also just a service provided professionally from companies whose sole purpose is providing that function. They cost money, but paying an extra 50-100 dollars on a 1500 dollar trade is hardly outside the realm of worthwhile, you just split the difference on the cost out of the total value and bob's your uncle.

I guess...
I'd be willing to do a $100-$200 trade if it was worth the fuss and botheration, but I wouldn't touch a $1,000 - $2,000 trade. I doubt I'm the only one. Too many things can go wrong, and I trust the mail about as far as I can throw it.
Good luck guys.

Oh I doubt we come to any kind of acceptable terms given the listing thus far, but there are enough ways to stay safe in large deals like this if you're willing to put the effort in.
Tracking, Delivery confirmation, Insurance, Escrow.
You don't go that far for most trades because they cost as much or more than the value of the cards, but for Power you take the extra steps.
October 19, 2013 2:36 p.m.
Yea, I kind of figured tracking, delivery confirmation, and established 3rd person was assumed. Never thought posting it here would bring such hostility lol

We're apprehensive (not necessarily hostile) because every alarm bell in everyone's head is going off. A new player suddenly has access to a Black Lotus with no comparable cards and no explanation? Does that not seem sketchy to you?

You could allay some of the suspicions if you could somehow prove you have a Black Lotus .
October 19, 2013 2:48 p.m.
It's not posting it "here" it's posting it "anywhere where nobody knows
It is very easy to commit mail fraud when both people are supposed to send their halves of the trade at the same time. All you have to do is say "Yup, I sent" and that's it.
You can even mail an empty bubble mailer with confirmation and tracking.
Don't take it too personally, it's just a VERY common scam and your presentation is so far, right in line with how that scam gets attempted. Some scans that were clearly scans of a card you owned (Say, in the frame with the card was a handwritten paper that had your username and the date or something on it) would go a long way towards getting you where you want to be.
October 19, 2013 2:48 p.m.
Duckserto, we mean no offense, it's just that it looks a little fishy, and I'm sure that you can understand as you seem to know the value of the card.
We watch out for stuff that looks odd like this because we have had scammers on here in the past, and we look out for the members, that's all.
As they said, a picture of the card with a paper having the date and your username would allay a lot of the apprehension.

step 1: list on craigslist for $500
step 2: freak out because $500
fluffybunnypants says... #2
So, let me get this straight, you're looking for someone to trade for/buy a $1400-$1500 card from you.... without vouches.... on a site that has no form of recourse for failed transactions other than someone not being able to use the site again. That's some testicular fortitude, mang.
