2 questions in 1 post...Demigod / Aura

Asked by btmankin 14 years ago

We were playing a game the other day when my friend pulled out a Demigod of Revenge thing is he pulled it from his graveyard... it say "when you play demigod" does that mean its ability still causes you to pull all other demigods out even though he didn't play it but pulled it from the graveyard by the ability or sorcery of another card?

Question 2: we looked up the official rules which is posted on my I Aurafied, You Died deck and the question came up still about aura's...If a card TARGETS a player or creature it IS an aura is what we got out of the rules. Thing is certain cards will say..."opponent" does something or "creature" gain or do something. what I got out of this is this means it is an aura. It is still a)targeting an opponent or b)you to do something to a specific creature. Does this mean when enchantment say "a" or "an" + "opponent" is a world enchant? Not targeting because it make the enchant general? Also do cards that do not say "TARGET" creature or player are only enchantments and not auras? We play a lot of legacy and group games so I wanted to ask because of the new wordings and rules that constantly come out?

Question 1- Demigod of Revenge is only "played" when you cast it from your hand, to put it simply.

Question 2- I'm not at all sure what it is you're asking. Could you restate?

opponent plays Painful Quandary since it says "whenever an opponent" does that mean it is targeting a player? we were playing a multi-player game. Thank you for clarifying the plays rules cause he use a card to pull demi from his graveyard to kill us in a two headed giant game.

painful quandray does not target your opponent (because its a global enchantment) so it can get around Leyline of Sanctity as for auras they target a permanent or player when you cast them and comes into play attached to the chosen target

as for demigod caley is correct and if i remember right if you counter a demigod it will bring itself back from the graveyard as well as any other demigods in the graveyard

a little more clarification on auras if the aura's target becomes invalid (i.e. the target gains shroud) the aura will fizzle (forgot to add that)

so does this mean the only enchantments-aura in the game are ones that make you target or say "target" opponent are considered auras?

frizzle? do creatures lose auras if they become shrouded or do they keep what was om them and become imune to other effects after shroud is cast upon them through spell or ability?

for the most part yes but some older cards are labeled enchant creature, enchant land, and etc. these are now considered auras as well an exception to this is Oblivion Ring and Journey to Nowhere because the way its worded

i hope this helps

shroud does not affect things already attached to the permanent it just prevents things from being added while it has shroud
