What are the limitations on Venser, the Sojournerfoil's first ability?

on his +2 ability when it says cards you own, does it mean you can put a creature from your hand to the battlefield, then it says return to the battfield. i am curious if you can do it from your hand?

No you can't. The reason why it says "own" is because you can do it to a creature the opponent has used Mind Control on or say an artifact the opponent has used Steal Artifact on.

It states "target PERMANENT" permanents only exist on the battlefield, so cards in your hand are not eligible for Venser, the Sojourner 's first ability.

Well-stated. Remember, a permanent is anything that is on the battlefield. As to "own" vs. "control," see Zylo's post. You can own a card but not control it, and vice versa.
