A Pyromancer's Ascension Question regarding counterspells
Asked by NoSkillManiac 13 years ago
If I play any Instant/Sorcery with an active Pyromancer's Ascension out, and it gets Cancel ed, do I still get the copies from playing that Instant/Sorcery? or do they drop off the face of the multiverse (to be proper)?
Assuming you declared the copies properly, they each count as a separate spell and have to be countered individually. It's the same deal as with storm.

I believe that when ever Pyromancer Ascension 's abilities are activated they go on the stack over what ever spell activated it. so the copy resolves before the original spell. so even if the original spell was countered you get the copy.
So you do get the copy unless they counter Pyromancer Ascension

This is actually what enables a rather nifty trick with Remand and at least two active Ascensions.
If you have two active Ascensions on the field, a Remand and Spell A in hand:
--Cast Spell A. It gets copied twice, and the copies go on the stack above the actual Spell A.
--Before they resolve, cast Remand, targeting Spell A or one of its copies.
--Copy Remand twice, with one copy targeting the actual Spell A (not one of its copies), and one copy targeting the actual Remand (not one of its copies).
When all's said and done, you get two copies of Spell A that do what they need to do, and your original Spell A AND your original Remand will be back in your hand, ready to be cast again later. You never need to "spend" a card again.

Yeah, and then you draw a card or two, because Remand is awesome like that.

Psh. As if the card-draw is a major feature of Remand or something.
(Protip: it really is =p )

oh, believe me, I know. RAV/TS standard was my baby back in the day. if Remand wasn't a cantrip nobody would have brought it within ten feet of a tier 1 deck.
(blue-white-black blink! wohoo!)
