i do not think so. That rumour has been around since Ice Age

it won't happen. There are already five colors which is enough, plus it would be to much of a change to weave it in. Hope this clears things up. :)

IIRC (which may not be the case), it was only seriously considered during Rav development, where the basic would have been City and the colour purple. Also I think MaRo mentioned something in a column sometime about printing a colourless-producing basic land for purposes of domain, but that never got anywhere.

if they do that would completely eff up the dual lands with the friendlies and enemies and what not

not really...it'd just be a standalone and you wouldn't get duals off of it. it's not likely to happen though - the only reason it came up was because TS had some timeshifted domain stuff...i think...?

what about the back of the cards? they wouldnt add another color cause they would add it to the back and then you could tell new cards from older cards. just my thought. :P

they won't mess up the color wheel by adding another color, and they really like Artifacts as the "sixth color"

actually WotC almost did make a sixth color (which was to be purple) for the time spiral block i believe it was to appear in the planar chaos set instead of "color shifted" cards such as Damnation . the basic land was to be cave. also it would have been placed between black and blue on the color wheel.

though the idea for the color purple was scrapped because it took different things away from the other colors share of the color pie (it was going to have better burn spells than red and better counterspells than blue and some of blacks discard) and it didnt feel like its own color. also they decided not to introduce this new color because it would have only been around for a set or two then magic would go back to its normal five color wheel.

the 5 colors encompass all types of strategy(except for artifacts). I think it would be very difficult to make a truly unique new color. Besides it would make the game too complicated.

White - Teamwork, lifegain and damage prevention. Also known for exiling permanents and destroying enchantments.

Blue - Counter spells, unblockables and card manipulation. Also has bounce and milling.

Black - Siphoning, creature removal and graveyard exploitation. Also discard and sacrifices.

Red - Burn, aggro creatures, land and artifact destruction. Known best for the keyword haste.

Green - Large creatures, mana ramp and growth. Known for creatures with trample.

So, what is left? I can't think of much else

@BlueWolf15: I'm sure that came into it...way back when, they considered printing Arabian Nights on cardbacks that said Magic: Arabian Nights. That could have messed stuff up something awful, especially since they only printed Mountain s.
