anti-infect?
Asked by zigkid3 14 years ago
since scars will be out soon i know a lot of people will either be making artifact decks, and infect decks.
I need some anti-infect ideas.
Also how are these for anti-infect?: Protean Hydra I figure you get to prevent the damage and it comes back stronger. Whispersilk Cloak so i dont think the creature takes any damage at all since infect is an ability that deals damage in a different way, correct?
Ok, Protean Hydra is nice, but your gonna need to give it flying and also possibly some way to give a static +1 defence. First card I can think off is Leyline of Vitality for the +1 defence so it can at least block 1 creature. There is also that artifact that allows you to block an additional creature.
Now, with Whispersilk Cloak , I think you'll find that it will be used more so by infect decks because...
- It's gonna be used in infect decks to get damage through.
- It doesn't "prevent" damage being done if you block a creature with this attached as damage does NOT target the creature. thus Infect acts as a replacement effect for damage dealt, so your creature will still get -1/-1 counters for damage taken.

Protean Hydra is fine - 4 mana it has 3 +1 +1 counters on it, your right though it still needs reach. any sort of damage prevention will stop infect, as its a damage ability.
dunno if its rotating out, but Vampire Hexmage will have its uses, as the infect decks will probably use some form of proliferate based tech as well.
also keep in mind that for the most part everything with infect is within bolt range - they are a bit fragile.

Safe Passage would prevent the damage dealt to you and your creatures but would still allow them to damage whatever they may be blocking.

Engulfing Slagwurm would be a great late game card against Infect.
Early games stuff could be Fog or as neetbed suggested, Safe Passage .
Green/White or Green/Red could give a lot of access to early turn removal and disruption.
How you go about it though... thats the thing that your gonna have to decide on yourself :)

Umm... my answer seems to be the only real reliable response to infect. :P

your answer is also not in standard :P and Leeches is from Homelands. We don't play cards from that set here.
Pyroclasm really does do a number on most of the infect stuff. This is why I'm sad that Earthquake didn't come back to play this time around.

I DO like how Leeches finally starts to look like a mediocre card instead of a terrible card.

Who CARES if my answer is not fcking standard! Standard is not the only fcking type to play!

but i only care about standard since infect is coming back into standard, and will probably be used a bit in standard tournaments

Then please clarify you want only standard solutions so I need not waste my breath.

RDW is the answer to infect. It's actually an answer to a lot of stuff

Dear Zylo, unless you type via air pressure generated by your lungs pressing keys, you wasted no more breath than normal. Now, time, that's another matter...

This is an old question that has been answered a long time ago. Responding to it solely to publicly insult me adds nothing relevant to the topic. If your post is unneeded and unnecessary then please don't bring up an old question.
If you have a problem with me then please email me, as I have provided it in my profile, it would be much better than sending an email to everyone who has posted on this wall that you think I'm stupid or some thing of that matter.
Thank you. :)

you have the right idea, damage prevention is the best non tornoment way to fight against infect
if they cant deal damage they cant infect anything
the judgment block is a good example of what to look for for damage prevention

There's a lot of things that are anti-infect from both the -1/-1 stand point and the poison stand point.
From poison we have Leeches .
From -1/-1 we have cards like Leech Bonder , Blowfly Infestation , Medicine Runner , Fate Transfer , Tatterkite , Morselhoarder . There's a lot more and most of it is from Shadowmoor because that's where wither was introduced.
