are tapped abilities stackable?

Asked by k0o808 14 years ago

Say, if I were to equip Paradise Mantle to Birds of Paradise, would I be able to add 2 mana? What if I were to equip two mantles to one creature? Thanks!

No. You must tap the creature to activate the ability, you cannot tap a creature that is already tapped, so a Birds of Paradise that is equipped with a Paradise Mantle could tap to activate the original ability and add one mana, OR tap to activate the ability granted from the equipment. But not both.

Related question: What if there's a Necrotic Ooze in play with a Birds of Paradise and Steel Overseer in the graveyards - would you need to choose which tap ability to use?

Yes, you could choose to tap Necrotic Ooze to add one mana of any color, or add the +1/+1 counters, but again, not both. This is because the cost to activate the ability (before the ':') requires you to tap the creature to put it on the stack. As you cannot tap a creature that is already tapped, you can only activate one of the abilities.

Yes, you can only choose to pay for one ability. You cannot stack the cost to cheat the system. It is along the line of tapping 1 land for 1 mana. :)
