Best Master Transmuter Removal?
Asked by Jarrod_0067 14 years ago
I'm sick of that stupid overpowered rare Master Transmuter once it's out, you can't Lightning Bolt it, Unsummon it, Shatter it, Naturalize it, Path to Exile it pr Oblivion Ring it. Seriously, how can you kill it and make it stay dead?

I don't have Stifle . Maybe more realistic? Lets say I have 5 cards in hand with 6 mana in play. My opponent has Master Transmuter and card:Akroma's Memorial on the battlefield with 3 untapped blue mana producing lands or artifacts.
What should those cards in my hand be so I can exile it or kill it and never see it again?

Use Lightning Bolt , then after they respond, use a Shatter . They can't respond with the ability twice, it's tapped already!

with the memorial out you cant bolt it
lets assume your opponent has counterspell in his hand as well it would take either 3 artifact removal spells (green or white) or one artifact removal with splitsecond (not sure if there is one but it also would be green or white)
all the artifact removal must be instant speed of course

forgot to include white removal such as oust and path to exile and their like would have the same result but you would still need three in hand if your opponent has counterspell in their hand

@brianguymtg,
They can't respond with the ability again, but the returning of of an artifact to their hand is part of the activation cost and is thus "paid" when the ability is activated. In short when they activate it the thing is back in their hand before you ever even get a chance to cast that shatter, much less before it would resolve.

There are a couple of ways to do this:
1) Something along the lines of Sudden Shock or Krosan Grip .
2) Or just play something like card:Tsabo's Decree naming "human" or "artificer".
3) Or just play Suppression Field and run him out of mana 3x faster.
4) Or play AEther Flash .
5) Or play Blood Seeker
6) Or how about Gather Specimens
7) Sudden Spoiling and any other removal.
8) City of Solitude would make it so he couldn't ever leave it in play on your turn and then you could get rid of the Akroma Memorial on your turn taking away the haste issue.
Or any of: Lethal Vapors , Tainted AEther , Wipe Away , Take Possession , Sudden Death
In short, there are a lot of ways to deal with it. I don't know if you have access to any of these cards but these, and more like them can do the job =) Good Luck.

Oh and if he has ways of bringing artifacts back from the graveyard you can run Extirpate to make sure it is gone =)
It's a rare but once you kill it once you will never have to deal with it that game again =)

krosan grip was the card i was thinking of
also with the scenario you listed with the transmuter and the memorial you can target the memorial with shatter, naturalize, or any other artifact hate, and try to get him use the masters ability to save the memorial then kill it with another spell i.e. naturalize
but the best bet is Krosan Grip for this scenario

why is $ªmHεiπs comment not realiistic. He is correct. Those are all ways of getting rid of it or avoiding it. There is no way for any of us to know what cards you own (re: Stifle )

Yeah, man, Master Transmuter is a stupid overpowered card! That's why it saw so much professional tournament play when Shards block was in Standard.
You're gonna need some powerful removal to rid yourself of this menace. How about, say, Bala Ged Scorpion ?

I just hate trying to kill it knowing my opponent is about three cards away from a Darksteel Colossus . I don't want to waste 2 Lightning Bolt s, and usually with card:Akroma's Memorial out, I have to waste a Naturalize as well. Exiling removal cards like the new Revoke Existence can't beat a deck that runs 4 of them, and they Fabricate to search for other copies.
@squire1 , I know those ways work occasionally, but I have tried them so many times. Sure, counterspells work, but a Skeleton Shard can always keep bringing it back for another go. My opponent is never tapped out with this deck either so there goes that plan. I don't think Stifle would work the way planned because the transmuter's cost includes returning an artifact, usually the transmuter, to the hand before the ability triggers. On the stack, the card would be removed from the field, but no artifact could be played from it's ability as it would be countered. The transmuter will stay safe in it's owner's hand until it is cast a second time, or forced into play.
The best suggestion so far has been Krosan Grip .

might have better luck posting the deck that is causing you so much trouble then.

anything fast aggro, or something with lots of control, remove the right pieces, and the deck would fall apart. If you can get the cards, play something equally gross (and much faster) Tectonic Grind, then whenever he pulls that thing out, you play the grind, until you both say, ok - you don't play that deck and I wont play this one. seriously though - if this is casual, and your not having fun playing against that deck, just ask him not to play it. I usually only get to play certain decks 1 or 2 times, then my friends say - ok, play something else - no fuss no muss, I just wanted to see if it worked the way I wanted it to.

1) It has to hit the table in the first place - counter it
2) It doesn't have haste - any of those will work the turn it comes down.
3) Requires a blue mana to use - wait until your opponent is tapped out
4) might need 2 cards to get rid of it, tap it, if opponent picks it up, counter it, if not do anything else to it
5) kill it, then Stifle , Voidslime , etc
