can a fully loaded Quest for Ula's Temple be countered?

lets say you have three counters on card:Quest for Ula's Temple and at the end of your turn you play Stormtide Leviathan . can your opponent counter that?
No, it's a triggered effect of the card not a spell. You may only counter it with cards like Voidslime that can counter abilities but not with a traditional counter spell.

you opponent would not be able to counter the levaithan because it has not been cast so the creature is never put on the stack. though your opponent can prevent the ability from triggering with cards like Vampire Hexmage and Naturalize or it can be countered with Voidslime (as mpz5 mentioned).

but voidslime only counters the temples triggered ability not the leviathan (just to clarify) so once your opponent lets the ability go on the stack and they have no way to counter it you will get a free leviathan. so they want to destroy it or remove it's counters before the temples ability triggers.

Right, so a card like Stifle will work, while Counterspell (which states in its original text: "counter target spell AS IT IS BEING CAST") will not, since you never ended up casting the leviathan.

Sorry, wrong
I thought it was different. Stifle will work though

Azorius Guildmage , as spectacular of a card as it is, doesn't do jack against triggered abilities, which is what this is.
however, you can then proceed to just tap their fattie down...but that's an entirely different can of worms.

I thought it was a "sac this quest: put lots of fatties onto the battlefield" but I didn't read it properly

It reads "put" and not cast, so I'd say no.
