Can anyone think of a way to remove an ability from a spell on the stack?
Asked by KrazyCaley 14 years ago
So. Let's say that a friend of mine who shall remain anonymous plays Vexing Shusher just to...well, just to vex me.
Now. I want to counter Vexing Shusher . Yes, yes, I know, I could play Mindbreak Trap or whatever, but that is not the point. I don't want to exile this spell.
I. Want. To. Counter. It.
Thus, I need to find a way to strip spells on the stack of their abilities. I can't think of any way to do this, and gatherer has proved fruitless, though perhaps I'm not using all the right terms. So, any ideas?

i looked not even split-second can help cause it says activated abilities so the only thing i can say is ur at a loss cause it can't be countered.

Well I know it's not against the rules to strip a spell of its abilities, but I can't think of any actual card that does such a thing. Alas.

there is one its called Trickbind . however i think the card has a static ability in which case the trickbind will have no ill effect on the card. plus side u can stop the activated ability for one turn.

also there are a several other cards that have the same counter ability effect as trickbind, but not the split-second ability.

@Crazykillsftw,
Yeah, you have the right idea about Trickbind . It won't stop the "can't be countered" clause on a spell because it's a static ability of the spell.
@KrazyCaley,
As far as I know (and I've been playing since circa 1993) there is no way to do what you're asking.

@Eyehate, yeah, crafty old veteran myself, and I can't even think of an Unglued card that lets me do anything like that.

So, to conclude, Caley, no, you can't do that. Stop being so CRAZY.

I'm not crazy. I'm KRAZY. It's distinct because I'm so Krazy I spell it with a k AND also argue with myself on the Q&A forums.
However, I am insufficiently k(c)razy to misspell my own first name. This is the exact level of k(c)raziness that the word "krazy" specifies.
In conclusion, thank you all for coming

Venser, Shaper Savant will bounce him back to hand, but you can't counter it any more than you can strip a shroud creature of its shroud ability.

(And yes, I added that last little bit to get you thinking about whether or not it's possible to strip shroud off of something)

I would find hilarious a card that read "Target creature loses shroud."

im not sure what the rules say but the only card that may be able to counter it would be a card with the split-second abilaty other than that im at a loss.
