Can I equip Livewire Lash to a Land-Creature?
Asked by Legendinc 14 years ago
2 part question:
Can I equip Livewire Lash to Creeping Tar Pit when I turned it into the 3/4 unblockable creature (till end of turn) that's still a land? The equipment just pops off him when it turns back into a normal, nonbasic land after my turn right?
And Secondly, when I play Tainted Strike on the newly turned creature Creeping Tar Pit , while its equipped with Livewire Lash , will Creeping Tar Pit deal 2 poison damage to a player, since it was given Tainted Strike ?
just wondering, since that's something i can pull off in my creeping-tarfect deck, which i'm taking to FNM tonight.

Yes, but it becomes unequipped when it stops being a creature.
Yes Tainted Strike + Livewire Lash combo still works.
Good luck at FNM.

actually this is the answer to your first question. It does pop off the land, when it stops being a creature
"301.5c "...An Equipment that equips an illegal or nonexistent permanent becomes unattached from that permanent but remains on the battlefield. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.)"

sweet thanks!
that means i can dole out 9 poison counters in one turn.
bwahahahaha!
and thanks thaimaishuu, i hope to due well against the current meta everybody else plays. i'm the only one playing infect tonight.
everybody else is either a Quest for the Holy Relic deck or a variation of that, or some kind of U/W Control with like 123059809348 planeswalkers.

Well we hit the button at the same time. Besides you beat me first, technically. :P

Unfortunately the Livewire Lash and Tainted Strike combo does not work as it was explained above.
The Scenario: You activate your Creeping Tar Pit and equip it with Livewire Lash like in your example above. Then you cast Tainted Strike on it.
The Tainted Strike will be added to the stack unresolved and then the Livewire Lash triggered ability is added to the stack on top of the Tainted Strike . The livewire ability resolves before the tainted strike and Creeping Tar Pit doesn't have infect until Tainted Strike resolves.
Thus, the damage is not done in poison counters to you opponent (nor -1/-1 counters if your target was a creature). Instead the tar pit does 2 normal damage to a creature or player. After that the Tainted Strike resolves and any further damage the tar pit does via the lash WILL do infect damage as you'd expect.

Bleh - ignore the extraneous 'Now' at the end of my last post. I hit post when I was trying to preview =/
Anyways, sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this one. But if you want to maximize the poison damage you'll need to use the lash on a creature that already has infect. Otherwise you'll always miss out on the first 2 poison counters the lash could have done and only get normal damage instead.
Hope this helps (ie I hope it saves you a bad day at a tournament when you find out the deck you designed around the mechanic doesn't work...been there before...no fun..)

oh well, that's still seven poison counters in one turn.
i can easily proliferate the final three to win.

i can use the two damage to clear the field or something either way.
