Can I freely sacrifice a creature without a sacrifice effect?

Asked by djdauenbaugh 13 years ago

I had a deck idea in my dread return exemplified deck. As I was playtesting, I had a Pawn of Ulamog , Reassembling Skeleton , Mortician Beetle , and Jinxed Idol on the battlefield. Can I freely sacrifice Reassembling Skeleton during my turn and gain all of the other effects, or do I need a card that has a "sacrifice a creature" ability?

no you can not just sacrifice a creature cause you want to, you need an effect that causes you to sacrifice a permanent

oh BUT, if you did have that Jinxed Idol you can chose to sacrifice the skeleton using the idol's ability, causing all the other cards effects to be triggered
