Can I play a version of a card in standard that isn't a standard set?

Asked by rckclimber777 13 years ago

For instance, may I play an Alpha version of Llanowar elves in standard or do I really have to have the M11 copy of llanowar elves?

Yes. Any card that is standard legal is standard legal regardless of which set it comes from.

Serra Angel comes to mind as well.

Some people prefer those old Lawnmower Elves over the new ones and use them in Standard.

So you go ahead and break out those ancient cards.

On a sidenote, I have to admit that the newer picture for Llanowar I like more than that giant profile picture from the old card.

Lol.

Some of that old art.....it was...not too good.

Although I remember thinking it was awesome when I was younger.

lol yea thanks I just wanted to make sure because I have about 5 copies of lightning bolt in standard but probably dozens outside of standard and wasn't entirely sure how it worked out.
