Can I sacrifice a permanent just to remove it from the battlefield?

For instance, I gain control of an opponent's overpowered creature for one round and I choose to sacrifice it while it is under my control (goes to graveyard and is not "killed"). Another example would be that I have a permanent that was rendered useless because of a sorcery or enchantment, but if I sacrifice it I can later draw it out of my graveyard.

the answer is no.

you have to a way to sacrifice the creature such as Bloodthrone Vampire
